diff or driveshaft???

   ive got 98 vtr. not to sure whether my diff has gone or whether its my driveshaft. ive got no drive but my speedo is still going up. but the weird noises coming from the box are unreal so i aint to sure whether its the diff or driveshaft or maybe even both???? if someone could point me in the right direction that would be great thanks

   is it like a knocking noise? and does it do it when you are turning? or just all the time? could also be a gearbox mount

   Hi,
   
   Jack up the front of the car, put it in gear then have someone turn the wheels whilst you watch what is moving and what isn't and take it from there.
   
   The speedometer drive for the vehicle speed sensor has 17 teeth on it and engages with 19 teeth on the differential drive pinion but on the passenger side only, so if the speedo is ok, my guess it's the driveshaft as you suspected. Unless it's a problem on the driver's side.

   well when it happened it was a big knock but now its lost drive. i think it might be on the drivers side because when it was knocking it was pulling to the right

   ohh and when i jacked the car up i could still spin the wheel when it was in gear

   when my diff had blown it made a rattling noise car wouldnt move in any gear and the speedo went up when reved in gear sounds like youv blown it apperntly they have weak diffs nasty noises tbh! dont want to be reving it to much but its deffo a new gearbox time

   yeah i thought so the rattling noise aswell and i was giving it some stick 2. did u need driveshafts aswell?
