Done a 16v conversion on my furio 3 weeks ago and still having trouble, first problem was running like bag turned out to be injectors but i thought it was a bent vavle so took the head off and reseated the valves replaced the valve stem seals...... has now started cutting out when you dip the clutch and last of all it cut out whist driving to a mates and managed to start it again with a bad rattle comming from the engine internally so we towed it to mine and took the plugs out to find out the new head gasket has blown already and filled the cylinders with oils. Why should this happen? its really doing my bonse in i dont have the enthusiasm to strip it all again and rebuild so its just sitting in the drive. Oh another problem i dont have a fuel guage. If anyone want to come do the head again im willing to pay notes because i simpley cant be bothered to keep doing it.
Sick of it

#2It's a pity you're not close as I would have come and done it in 2 weeks time.
If there's oil in the cylinders then one of two things - head gasket or valve stem oil seals. As you've replaced both it could be either of them.
Just sounds like something wasn't done when you re-fitted the head/rebuilt it? Not trying to put you down but there has to be a reason behind it - if you know what it was then you can repair it and get it back up and running.
I presume that all the valve stem oil seals were seated properly?
If I was you I'd strip it all back down again - maybe sounds like a collet has come out ? -
#3Yeh i have thought about that. I used the 10mm socket method for seating the stem seals and double checked them. It was fine for a week its just strange there was a smell of burn oil then it just died on me but im now wondering if it was over full of oil as i dont have a dip stick....... would this cause a seal to leak or maybe blow the gasket under pressure? it would push oil out of the crank breather bad and fill the hole engine bay full of oil.
-
#4Not having a dipstick wouldn't have helped things - if you've hugely over-filled it then could have caused it.
How much oil did you put in ?!
Yeh sounds like you seated the stem seals fine -
#5I have no idea becuase it was pushing it out of the crank case breather i kept topping it up a little every couple of days..... i hadnt put any in since wednesday and it was fine. I have just noticed something else, in the throttle body you have those 2 little bolts that hold the butterfly in place, one of the bolts is missing??? sucked into the inlet and bust a valve? oh also the compression on cylinder 1 is 4 and the rest are 11 but when i did a test before i stripped the head last time they were all 14

#6doesn't sound great tbh - I think whatever has happened, you're going to need to pull the head off again.Quote:I have no idea becuase it was pushing it out of the crank case breather i kept topping it up a little every couple of days..... i hadnt put any in since wednesday and it was fine. Compression on cylinder 1 of 4 doesn't sound great too - would hint at it being a valve problem if the rest are fine.
I'll have a 16v head for sale up in 3 weeks if you're still in need of one then. -
#7I have stripped the head off again for the second time in a week, turns out one of the bolts that hold the butterfly in the throttle body has shook lose and sucked into cylinder one, its imbedded itselft into the head and the head and piston has chunks out of it but the vavles havnt been touched but still going to take them out. Il get picks up but do you think its best to get another head?
-
#8Get some pic's of the head and piston up - 99% I'd say it'll be easier and cheaper to just buy another head, but you might need a new engine if pistons buggered.
Doesn't sound great if piston has chunks out of it
Had you touched the throttle body screws ? Ported the TB ?
Sorry to hear it mate, I know how much of a paint it is doing a job twice in short succession -
#9There was a one of the little screw missing when i got the engine so i put another one in and noticed it missing earlier and thought hmm the engine rattled well like a bent valve so had no choice but to take it off and it was imbedded into the head. My bro is a mechanic and had a quick look and said i should get away with the piston and the head might have a crack where the bolt went down, he dont want anything to do with it thought. I have poured petrol into the inlet valves while they are shut and it just runs through them so im going to have to try and reseat the valve again but havnt got the 16v valve removing tool as i borrowed it last time and the bloke isnt there! what a shitter.

#10Get a picture up of the piston but doesn't sound like it'll be okay. You don't want to rebuild the head now and fit new parts and find the piston is buggered as would be a waste of money.Quote:There was a one of the little screw missing when i got the engine so i put another one in and noticed it missing earlier and thought hmm the engine rattled well like a bent valve so had no choice but to take it off and it was imbedded into the head. Sounds like the valve is bent then ?
Just be careful plowing more money into it when you could buy a perfectly fine second hand head with fine valves and no bolt stuck in the combustion part of the head.
Don't try and cut corners as it'll just come back to haunt you -
#11Im thinking of getting a bare engine and just swap the lot.
