Important! : Seatbelt Query

  1. #1
I have recently fitted some new seatbelts. The fronts were fine and weren't locked up but the rears were locked. However, after opening the mechanism up I have noticed that by removing the ball bearing and it's cage they unlock and run freely. Basically, what is the purpose of the ball bearing and its cage, as without it seatbelt mechanism seems to work ok. However, with this back in place, it becomes impossible to open up the seatbelts!

I don't want to remove this ball bearing and cage if it's dangerous to do so!

Can get a pic of said object if needed...

    Any advice would be great.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure the ball bearing is there to lock the seatbelt when the ball moves forwards, ie in a crash or if you brake hard.

I would 100% not remove them

I'm not sure. Why would you even wan't to take it out anyway. If it's part of the oem seatbelt mechanism i wouldn't dare touch it. It's not worth fiddling with safety stuff.

They still seem to be locking without the ball bearing there though...

I won't remove them then, as it's too risky.

I've got 4 bloody rear seat belts and none of them will open it's so annoying! Tried everything!

Oh, now i get you. I have heard about this problem before. If you take the cage out, pull the belt free then replace. I think. It should look fairly straight forward when you look at it.
