exhaust spring bolts?

Hi peeps i recently fitted a full s/s system to my vtr...manifold, race centre section and backbox but my spring bolts keep coming off when im going down the road at like 60mph lol...my third one came off this morning but it looks like this one is just the spring cos if i look under the front of the car i can see threads and a nut but i cant get under the car to see if there is a head on the bolt or not as its lowered, cos it may have snapped and just left the threads there...so basically my question is do i need some special bolts or what? as 3 coming off in 2 weeks sounds wrong to me lol, could it be the heat from the manifold and centre section causing them to weaken and just snap off? im stuck on what to do about it anymore.

    Cheers, Sean

These bolts are spring loadad so that when fully tightend they still allow the exhaust to move with the engine under accelration and deceleration. I would just get anew set fro mlocal exahaust place and re fit them. They should not break unless you are overtightening them massivley and should not undo themselves unless you have not fully tightened them up.

well i had 2 normal bolts put in with washers and springs and the garage tightened them up with an air gun :-o so maybe they were too tight?

so your staying you had standard bolts instead of the springs required?

if not used with a washer on the bolt going through the down pipe to the car, (so the front of engine bay side) the bolt can slip through the down pipe and cat causing it to come off, this will happen when the car is under more stress so the engine is under more movement.

Also have you used locking nuts (ones with the rubber grip)? Was it a proper kit you used or just a random pair of bolts?

it wasn't a proper kit, i didnt fit it a tyre and exhaust place local to me did and all that was different was something like a M8 bolt was used instead of the proper one in a kit...washers was put on either end to stop the bolt falling straight through so the washers acted as the cups on the standard fitment

no need for special bolts go buy some original ones, and get the kit properly fitted do not over tighten them, as the springs causes the exhaust movement when the engine is moving under harsh acceleration.
