Whirring noise from front nearside

Right, i have a "whirring" noise, sounds a bit like answering machine tone,(lower pitch) coming from the nearside front wheel. There is no indication it is happening e.g vibrating steering wheel. It does it sometime when u ease off the gas, and sometimes when u press tje clutch in. It will then stop when u release clutch. However it doesnt do it tha regularly. It just picks a day and will then make a noise for ages, but then stop. It was doing it a while back, (i had origional tyres on then, 165/65 -1.1 desire) but i changed my front discs and pads and it seemed to have cured it(one set of pads on nearside was extremely low compared to the other which were barely worn(bout 1/3 to 1/2 wear).
Srry this is so long, just trying to giv as much info as possible!

    Hi,

Could be a few things from what you have described:

    1) Clutch release bearing
    2) Driveshaft - check for black oily grease sprayed all over the place
    3) Wheel bearing - check http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5khjK0y6PIw

Ok, well done. I think it'll be the clutch release bearing which is located closer to the passenger wheel than the driver's.

This can develop into a loud squeal, bit like a worn power steering pump in the old days and cause a slight judder whilst pulling away in 1st or reverse.
