The one on my mk 1 Sax is so noisy it's driving me nuts! 'StompinSara' said hers was the same, and it's been like it for 18 months! i doubt it's as loud as my b*stard though! also maybe i could get a new bearing fitted (i imagine that's what's causing all the row) any advice much appreciated, thanks.

Power steering pump-any idea how much i should expect to pay to get a s/h one supplied and fitted?

#2whack it wiv a hammer, it worked for me

#3as above.. give the hammer a go before you try a new one. they are quite easy to remove. theres a guide on here somwhere im sure. just use the search page.

But it works fine, it's just got a loud noise like a worn out bearing, surely a hammer won't sort that?
-
#5£50-70 for a pump £40-60 fitting
-
#7thats only a temp fix though
-
#9well it could last for a few mins upto a few months
-
#11sorry i actually read you first post hitting it wont do anything. the noise is probably the bearings inside dead or lack of fluid.
Hitting it sometimes gets a non working pump going again -
#13Just a buy a second hand one and fit yourself.

#15pm saxosapares he might have one and he also buys them

#19can you describe the noise? mine makes a very loud whine whenever it's working under load but i always thought that was normal for the saxo?

#22hit the metal part of the pump from under the car with a hammer. you may notice a difference in tone lol
the easiest way other than that to sort it is to get a another pump tbh though. got myself a 2nd hand pump for £50 and fitted it (pipe was a little seized but did it eventually) -
#23I take it the hammer treatment is a waste of time then!Quote:hit the metal part of the pump from under the car with a hammer. you may notice a difference in tone lol

#24Update....gave it a few clouts with the hammer, just to satisfy my curiosity and, you guessed it, it's just the same! strange though, it sounds louder in the car than underneath!
