Important! : Braking and Engine Problem Saxo 2001 1.1

  1. #1
    Can anyone help please?

My Saxo has started to rev up when I press the brakes. It also revs up whilst I am in stationary traffic its quite scary especialy when braking.

This forum is great for information so I have tried to fix it but still not fixed
I have replaced the ICV with a brand new one but no luck.

Any other ideas please? Would be really appreciated.

    Kind Regards

i could be wrong but maybe its the throttle possition sensor? and i dont mean to insult your intelligence but are you sure u arent just pushing the go pedal accidently while braking? its easily done if wearing large shoes or boots?

    Hi Susana,

There is a brake servo (big black round thing) on the back of the engine bay which is connected through the bulkhead to the foot brake.

This servo has a pipe (vacuum pipe) on it that goes to the engine and steals power from the engine to help you apply the brakes.

I have never tried this on a Saxo but you could try this:

    1) Engine off - pump the brake 5 times then keep your foot on the brake pedal
    2) Start the car
    3) Your should feel the pedal sink under your foot

This is likely to be a faulty servo but its worth checking the vacuum hose is ok.

    Hi Susana,

    Found this: http://forums.puntomk2.co.uk/showthr...Brakes-problem

Exactly like your symptoms. Ignore the posts by FLEX. There are pictures and tips on how to test the vacuum pipes by spraying brake cleaner to help spot any vacuum pipe leaks.

These problems only happen when the car is hot it works perfectly when cold for an hour or so. Is there anything else that I should be checking for as well?

    Thanks

Not that I can think of, make sure you do the checks after the car is hot. Heat as you know causes things to expand.
