fuel gauge :(

   hiya fellas need your expertise!!
   
   fuel guage on my mk 2vtr, usually reads when it has fuel in, but only really after £10.00...or if i top up £40.00, it wil register as usual and then when ive done 200miles or so, it wont register anything, then for some reason, the needle will drop right to the bottom of the gauge, then move quickly to a full tank, then right back down, back up, back down (you get the drift!)...any ideas?

   Possible fix could just to unplug battery overnight, let the ECU reset - see if that fixes it

   yeah could do - try over weekend, thinkin it may be electrical, as it registers anything over £10.00 or so??
