I'm really stuck fellas! Basicly i want me car to sound a little raspy on idle and then tiny bit savage when in high revs. Its a VTR Mk2 98BHP 51plate.

I travel ALOT in my car so i dont want it to loud or wasting anymore petrol that needed. Here was what ive been considering but im not sure what i wanna do cos of price insurance or whatever.

Mk1 manifold and downpipe so its de-cat but been told its very petrol consuming - Would this be very loud becuase i think i will still have a silencer?

Getting a de-slienced supersprint pipe for example and putting a backbox on it? Keeping my Mk2 mani with cat?

Or it already has a Panel Filter but if i got an inudction kit would it make a better noise on idle? - This may be the cheapest less hassle option?

Any other ideas on what i can do?
Any help would be so welcomed !

even a de-catted mk1 mani is still more restrictive than a mk2 mani with the cat, best off just getting either a cat back or a 4-2-1 with a supersprint pipe back from that

Really, why is it so restrictive?

Induction kit will not change your idle mate, its the exhaust gases through the sstem which makes that.

I've got the standard setup (mani and cat) with a supersprint race pipe - allow the silencers- to a magnex, cant complain, not too loud when cotching on the motorways at 65-70, and nice when its warmed up for a little boot

I didnt realise a mk1 mani was more restrictive? how so? it doesnt have a cat lol!

thats what i was thinking! unless its like alot smaller it phycially cant?!

Oright, thanks dude, So your saying get a pipe and a magnex backbox like im running and it should sound nicer on the idle?

Oh you've got a magnex too - nice

Yeah, although the supersprint needs to be cut slightly as the magnex is a sleeve joint - you probably know that already!

Yeah definitely, Ive had my set up, (basically new cat and mani) as the last one corroded to hell, for 4 days, so Im not sure if its fully carbon'ed up - but when its warm I have a more 'beefier' idle.
It also may not be the best indication as modfying has all come at once, and ive taken seats and sound deadening out - so it may be a combination of that too!!!!

All depends on budget mate. The best way to go about it is aftermarket Manifold - VTS cat (which can be interchanged with a decat pipe) then standard catback exhaust.... I would have gone with that but due to student budget, I stuck with what I have.

Hope that's helped a little mate
