Hi there. I was having problems with a leak from my rocker cover gasket so I replaced it. The leak was even worse so to cure it I removed the oil splash guard that is underneath it and managed to get it down tight enough to stop the leak completely. My question is will my Saxo run okay without this part? It doesn't seem to do much apart from stop oil splashing onto the underside of the rocker cover so I assume it'll be ok?
Rocker Cover/Splashguard question???

#2Honestly does no-one on here know? Or are you all covering your cars in glue in preparation for driving them through Halfords in the morning?
-

#6Well it just seems the majority of posts on the forum are from people who don't actually own saxos and they happily answer questions about styling and tuning with comments like:
'Man dat sound system is rood, man have the biggest balls in da car park' but when someone asks a serious question about actual mechanics it's ignored which leads me to believe that this particular forum is populated by 14 year olds who think that having a noisy exhaust is more important than maintaining their motors properly.
Not taking anything away from the majority of people who have been really helpful and informative and who's cars are quite obviously lovely and maintained to an extremely high standard both mechanically and cosmetically but there does seem to be a high amount of twats registered on here.

#7i think this is the reason you got the replys you got mate tbh, try not to stereotype people, 95% of people on here are very helpfulQuote:Or are you all covering your cars in glue in preparation for driving them through Halfords in the morning?

to answer your question i would never run an 8v without the guard, it is there for a reason. if you are having issues in getting a seal then just get a new seal as they are very cheap

#8Dude sometimes you wont get an answer straight away, be patient, you really need the oil guard on mate really, a new seal is bugger all, better to be safe than sorry.
Ohh yeah, try not to annoy the natives lol -
#9You are right there are alot of twats registered on here. Tbf though, you could be one of them as all you have done is asked a very very basic q which a 14 year old could probably answer.Quote:Well it just seems the majority of posts on the forum are from people who don't actually own saxos and they happily answer questions about styling and tuning with comments like:

as said though not hard or expensive to fix, may aswell just fix! -
#10When you are saying seal do you mean a rocker cover gasket? If so I've already replaced that as mentioned above. The issue I was having is with the actual rocker cover not going down fully with the guard in place.Quote:i think this is the reason you got the replys you got mate tbh, try not to stereotype people, 95% of people on here are very helpful

#11you could have too many washers on the studs or maybe your rocker cover has bent due to corrosion or misuse, maybe try another cover, they are cheap too, or go to scrappys.

#12It should fit mate. Put the guard in place then slide a spacer on each of the threaded bar. Know be patient and put the rocker cover over the top or the guard and wriggle it slightly and slight pressure onnit and it will go down mate.Quote:When you are saying seal do you mean a rocker cover gasket? You should then be able to push down and get a nut on each sie of the rocker

#13Aaahhh ok I thought it might have warped with the heat from the engine bay so I'll buy a new one and see if that solves it. It goes down fine and seems to seal all the way round apart from at one side.

#14The rocker cover goes down fine and there's plenty thread for the nuts to go onto it just wouldn't seal!! I'll try a new one and see if that cures it with the guard on.Quote:It should fit mate. #15you could always try twisting the cover while off the car to try save money, that may work. if not then get another imo
