One thing after another :(

    Hi people.
I'm new to this site, and I'd just like a little help.

I bought my saxo in january after killing my other car (a hyundai) and i've just had problem after problem.

Currently my car is sat on my drive. I had the immobiliser symbol come up on the dash and the ignition barrel broke. I purchased a second hand ignition barrel that seems to be from a pug 106 and plugged it in. Now the car tries to start before you turn the key all the way. it never fires up though and will just turn over until the battery dies. The immobiliser symbol isn't coming up now though, although none of the dashboard lights come on (only battery light) and the petrol guage doesn't move when the key is turned. It was fine on friday when I used it, it broke on saturday, and it's now tuesday and i still have no way of getting to work.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi,

My guess is that the replacement ignition barrel is not the 'right' one for your model and year car. I have seen several wiring diagram differences to the ignition barrel. You may be better off going to Citroen to have a barrel made that fits your old key, then you'll again only have one key for the car. Otherwise, it's two keys with one for the doors and the other for the ignition barrel.

There are a few things that Citroen will need see: http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=228926

There is a little transponder chip inside the key that talks to a control unit when you turn it.

When you replaced your ignition barrel it would have come with another key with its own chip, your control unit would not recognise it and will not let you start the car. You need to get Citroen to program the control unit to recognise your replacement key.

You are right, you should expect to see the immobiliser light on the dash, which leads me to suspect that the other dash light problems relate to a wrong barrel for your car's model and year.

As for problems after problems - this is not unusual in old cars especially ones that are not regularly looked after.

My step-dad and myself have just spent 20 mins in the rain and switched a couple of wires over in the new barrel, it works now and starts first time on the button :-)

The problem now is, my heated rear window and blower don't work. I've read about this problem in other threads so I will read up again.

If anyone has suggestions though i'm happy to hear them :-)

It could be a couple of things regarding the rear heater and blower... and I suspect it's the barrel again as there is a feed that goes from there to the respective relays.

But in the mean time the simplest thing to do is check the fuses.

    Top drawer!

The wiring for the PAS, heater blower and the rear window demister goes through the ignition barrel too so keep plugging away.

Well I've just taken it for a test run, still no joy with the window or blower but currently, I don't care... Just happy to be able to drive again XD

I'll have a play around some more but failing that, money will have to be spent at the garage >.<

Score 1 for the Haynes manual though
