just put on a unlocked ecu and now the car only revs to 6500 doesnt feel like a hard limit more like a fuel cut
btw its a vts

Do the ECU's all have hard cut limiters on? It could be softcut?

but still why would it be at 6500

Should go up to 7250 atleast mate if its a J4 ecu

You can't use a VTR ecu with a VTS engine dude.

so that ruels that out just need to know why its doing it now

In theory if the pins on the plug are the same eg. temp sensor etc. then theres no reason a vtr ecu will not run the engine but it will be a bag of shit

well it runns fine apart from it limiting at 6500

works fine with the old one and i can tell its not where it used to

A vtr ecu will run it - what model number is the ecu?

Someone on here is running a 1.4 ecu on his 16v - doesn't run great but it runs.
Otherwise could be a crank position sensor fault?

might tri that

Does it have 1ap.41 on it? 1ap.81?
I'm not 100% about 3plug codes but could look it up - that the only code on the Ecu?
If this simply happened when you fitted the Ecu then it hints at your problem. Why'd you need to buy an unlocked ecu?
I've never heard of that ecu place

with the old ecu on it wouldnt idle at all and kept staling but now with this one it idles fine some times cuts out and limits at 6500

So you were originally running a saxo 'vts' ecu with a more modern complete jp4 engine?
Did you get the last ecu diagnosed as faulty? Did ecu diagnostic place supply you with an ecu for a saxo j4 or for a jp4 engine?
The crank position sensor look okay? It plugs in okay? Is it a 2 pin connector on it?
Frequent PosterJoined: Jan 2010hetton/sunderlandPosts: 662250 BHP jp4 vts

i didnt think the jp4 ecu would run onthe saxo and yes the ecu diagnosed as faulty. plug looks fine and yeah the 2 pin conector on it

You have to be careful as the map on the saxo ecu (j4) will have a slightly different map on it than the optimum map for a jp4 engine.
did the jp4 engine ever run right on the old ecu?
And ecu diagnostics have given you a j4 ecu?
What happens when you hit 6500? Do the revs drop a lot when you hit it? As if the engine loses sense of when to inject fuel/spark?
Frequent PosterJoined: Jan 2010hetton/sunderlandPosts: 662250 BHP jp4 vts

yeah the rvs sometimes drop off and the car has cut out when its happend be for and it ran fine at first with the old ecu.

Who diagnosed the ecu fault? How they diagnose it?
Ring ecu diagnostic and ask the rev limit they put on it

How far the revs drop off? To like 6k or like 3/4k?

about 5.5 / 6 ish but some times looses all power and cuts out

Any lights lit up on the dash?
If it's started when you fitted the ecu then I'd speak to ecu diagnostics and first off ask them what they set the rev limit as - then tell them your problems, don't tell them your problems before seeing what they set it at/or if they touched it at all.
It does sound like the limiter is kicking in at 6500 though

i didnt think the limit could be changed but will ring them tomoro
thanks for the help

The limiter can be changed on them with the right tools.
I'd be fairly confident it's an Ecu problem from what you say about it. I'm surprised your old ecu just shat itself at some point and hence was faulty, without there being any causes/other problems

Mines on a JP4 block running off a j4 ecu and even with horrible compression figures it revs to 7200 without any hassle
