What does the oil breather filter actually do?

I'm still a little confused about what this actually does and the importance of it? This car doesn't even have a filter plugged into it.

Looks pretty crap though doesn't even have a cold air feed.

Anyone have any more information about this?

On standard air intake it puts the hot air back into the intake to lower the emissions, pretty much so the engine can breathe.

With an induction kit you stop it going back into the intake so no hot air goes back in, better combustion, so you put a filter on it to stop shit getting in

Ok cool I did have an induction kit but seemed to be slowing my car down and I found out it's because it's breathing in hot air from the engine so I went back to my original enclosed airbox and noticed the oil breather filter had snapped from the airbox so I just wrapped some duct tape round it and seems to be fine.
The duct tape couldn't melt or anything could it? And do open induction kits really slow the car down?

Yeah thats why you need a cold air feed.

I wouldn't go sealing the breather point mate, better with a tube without a filter than blocked up. Im not sure if it would melt? Best make sure it isn't touching the engine!

They generally don't do anything, just make it sound better, don't think they slow it down though. Best with an enclosed, cold air feed filter.

Oh i meant i taped the connector to the airbox lol where it snapped put a few layers round it to make sure they're joined properly and the connection does seem fine and yh doesn't seem to be getting that hot. I'll probably look into a raceland enclosed box in the future but for now i'll keep the standard one on.

Still holding well with duct tape so I think it's fine now

A breather literally let's the engine breath there are lots of moving parts in side an engine which push the air around inside this creates drag and concequently slows you down. So they stick a breather on. Lettng the air move freely
