Important! : New Discs n pads fitted...Problem

  1. #1
Recently i had new pads and discs all around, Not the most expensive ones but they looked like what were already on the car previously (About £70 for the lot, i got a Slight discount) ...Anyway i had them fitted, Now they're breaking fine its just that i get this horrible Squeek when i break. ( Just like your typical Squeeky break noise)

Sometimes it doesnt happen and other times its really bad, Mechanic who fitted them rekons it could just be the material, or the quality of the pad, Or the wearing in stage, Ive had them on about 250 miles ish. I would have thought they'd be worn in now, and certainly not squeeking.... Any help guys ?, Thanks.

Squeeks are the drain of my life at the minute, Exhaust Flange - Creaking, Wheel bearing - Whistling, And i get new brakes and now ive just added another F***ing squeak to my car.

No ideas...? Could it be a bit of crap on the discs or something.... is there anything i can spray onto the discs to clean them without taking the wheels off.

did they put any copper grease onto the back of the pads at all?

if not then that would be the first thing that i would get done - solves 90% of squaling brakes for me

Yes, The grease should go on the back of the pads between any contact points on the caliper/piston. etc.

I'd strip them out, re-grease them and then try them again. Check for any glazing on the pad surface. Possibly a new fitting kit whilst you're there. If you still get the problem, I'd start leaning towards pad material. Some can be really shitty to bed in and glaze piss easy.

FFS DO NOT DO THIS! You put the grease on the rear of the pads that sits against the caliper not on the friction surface!

LOL when he said it i thought, Im no mechanic but Copper grease on the friction side of the pad... Didnt sound right in my head neither haha !

Ok lads thanks, Ill whip them out and try some copper grease on the backs of the pads.. Maybe give the discs a spray of brake cleaner and wipe it off aswell while ive got the wheels off, cause im certain that the guy who fitted them ran out of brake cleaner when he fitted mine.

Yeah might just have to. Think we should try the copper grease trick first.

Oh yeah. a guy on here also fixed his flange by, Loosening the bolts on the flang... Wire brushing all the rust off. then copper greasing the fuck out of it, Might try it.

Clean the disc with brake cleaner and the pads and use cooper grease when you but the pads back clean the capilers with a wire bursh as well

also try refracing the pads with a bit of sand paper to take the glazing away. could be u was breaking a little too hard on new pads
