I need to jack up the front of my car do do work underneath. How do i support it on axle stands if the jacking/support points are being used by the jack?

just put them on the most solid bit of metal you can see, wishbone joints should be fine.

defineately NOT the sills, they will pop thru.

I find that there is enough space for the jack and an axle stand

For the rear, I'd jack up under the rear damper bolts and put axle stands on jacking points.

For the front, I jack up at jacking points and put stands under the rear wishbone bushes - maybe not the best of ideas, but I've never had any trouble... the rubber is pretty solid.

Don't put them under sils or those hollow box sections that run up and down the car otherwise you'll bend them.

I rarely use the jacking points on the sills even for jacking the car, to put on axle stands I'd jack it up using the jacking points on the sills, then place the axle stands as others have said on the wishbone joints towards the middle of the car

Thanks for the replies. My only problem is finding the wishbone joints (don't really know my way around a car yet). Can anyone describe where they are, or better still have a photo of them.

    Cheers.

not easy to describe, and havent got a photo without going and taking one lol, but as you jack the car up and look underneath, look at the wheel, and there should look like a "bar" going from the bottom of the wheel assembly towards the middle of the car, if that makes sense? That's the wishbone, and place the axle stand under the bit where it ends towards the middle of the car
