Fitting a 1.1 box to my VTR tomorro and looking forward to the acceloration increase
will post up a video or summink of the acceloration to see what you all think
1.1 box in vtr

#2surely that'd be too much power for a 1.1 box to handle??? and increase fuel consumption in 5th gear along with straining the box at higher speeds?
-
#3I think simo ran 1.1 boxs on his vts turbo, eventually killing them. But the vtr engine responds well to them, although more fuel is consumed to high revving and lower top end speeds. Can't wait to put a 1.1 box on my vtr
-
#4no i had a 1.1sxi gearbox in my vtr it was rapid on acceleration and top end wasnt the best!
-
#5Just got back from work from fitting it and in the 5 miles I've drove I love it
it picks up sooooo much quicker. Gota admit I was at 70 and it was nearly 4k but still it's all good considering I don't use motorways at all really. Would definately recommend and will get some videos up soon of the acceloration

#6Is a good cheap improvment.1 user thanked this post:
-
#7massive improvment i would say. my mate has a 1.1 box on a standard vtr and his kept up with my vtr which is cammed,421 manifold, full janspeed system
surely they cant last long tho?
-
#8Only difference is a smaller diff. The rest is just as strong as a VT box. So as long as you dont do brunouts at traffic lights itll last fine
-
#9i used to think 1.1 boxs were good on VTRs but now iv gone back to the VTR box it really is so much better! it shouldnt be...but it really is.
good luck with the box mate thats all im going to say. -
#10completely straight swap, or do you need to use the 1.1 clutch? as its 180mm with the vtr clutch being 200mm?
does the input shaft line up all correctly?
thinking of doing this myself, as the ratios in the vtr box are wayyy too long1 user thanked this post: -
#11use vtr/vts clutch as they are same, Use vtr driveshafts as the difference ain't in the diff it's in the hubs, everything else is the same all gearbox holes and everything line up. If you need anymore info send me a message as it's still fresh in my mind as I did it earlier took me about 3hoursQuote:completely straight swap, or do you need to use the 1.1 clutch? as its 180mm with the vtr clutch being 200mm?

#12As promised the video of 0-60 on my car once the box had been fitted, ive tryed timing but TBH im a bit of a Downs so probs not right but would say about 8.4 seconds?!?! so on a 90bhp VTR with a air filter and Magnex Cat back thats a second and half increase not bad IMO
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CezqTaxPh4
EDIT: apparently on parkers standard 0-60 on a 90bhp vtr is 9.9 seconds and 100bhp is 9.1 seconds -
#13nice seems like a good improvement for the price (guessing it wasnt that much?)
Anyone know if fitting a vts box to a vtr would make a difference in acceleration and if it would keep some of the top end?? Ta -
#14Had one, didn't notice a difference, blew it up in two months. The end.
-
#16was 90 quid for box and apparently VTS improves acceleration and the 5th isnt as long as vtr but has been proved with a 7.2 k limiter to do 142 or summin so will still be good on motorway.Quote:nice seems like a good improvement for the price (guessing it wasnt that much?)

#17getting a vts box fitted to my vtr on fri so i will let you know if you still keep top end and any noticable improvement on acceleration
2 users thanked this post: , -
#18see my diff blew up on my vtr and seeing this thread has got me bordering on getting a 1.1 gearbox for mine. but will i be in the same posistion in 2 months with another blown diff.

#19

a millie a millie a millie.
The only difference between the boxes is the final drive i thought
-
#20i have a 1.1 gear box on my vts engine and i love it not had any problems with it so far
-
#21I thought that the diffs were the same through the whole range, and the only differance was the gear set?
-
#22the rule is you always use the clutch made for your engineQuote:completely straight swap, or do you need to use the 1.1 clutch? as its 180mm with the vtr clutch being 200mm?

i had a 1.1 box on my vts, since then ive fitted a vtr box, i didnt notice much difference in acceleration when i went back to the vtr box but its so nice to sit at 3k rpm doing 70 mph with a vtr box than it is doing 4k rpm at 70mph on the 1.1 box lol
-
#23no, the diff is smallerQuote:I thought that the diffs were the same through the whole range, and the only differance was the gear set?
the non-sport boxes have smaller diff so have longer drive shafts,
the sport boxes have a bigger diff so have shorted shafts
so if you fitted a vtr box to a 1.1 using the 1.1 shafts you would leak oil as the shafts wouldn't fit in the diff properly, but its alright to use the vtr shafts with a 1.1 box, as they are smaller they would still make a good seal -
#24but you can only do 30mph so why would you want more acceleration
-
#25You can do 70 round here... *facepalm*
And to those of you who are blowing diffs, do you have no mechanical sympathy? Mine's stood up to a fair amount of abuse over the past 2 years, and has got a bit of a whine, still goes though. -
#26got my VTS box fitted and its a nice noticable difference in accleeration with fine top end
would deffo recomend it!
couldnt imagine a 1.1 box in like lol -
#27Believe it or not there is barely a difference in a 1.1 box compared to a vts\gti box, the FD on the gti box is much about such with the 1.1 box from what i've read on rallye reg.
-
#28what about the 1.4 box is that the same as the 1.1 or vtr or just completely different from both?
-
#29wel mine is bouncing on limiter at 120MPH and i doubt its the same with the VTS so there is a bit of a difference, but who cares. i dont really speed on motorways i only like acceloration up to them speedsQuote:Believe it or not there is barely a difference in a 1.1 box compared to a vts\gti box, the FD on the gti box is much about such with the 1.1 box from what i've read on rallye reg.

#30Fibs! lolQuote:wel mine is bouncing on limiter at 120MPH and i doubt its the same with the VTS so there is a bit of a difference, but who cares. i dont really speed on motorways i only like acceloration up to them speeds

i haz a 1.1 box, and ive been 123mph at 6300 rpm, revs to 6500 in 4th and 5th (vtr hard-cut limiter), never hit limiter in 5th, as i presume its 6500rpm, and its not on the powerband, so takes awhile to get any higher y0.
Still a slow top end, but you gotta love the 6k-5k-6k-5k-6k gear changes. -
#31honest mate thats how i got 130 on my vtr box down a hill on M road and i think my limiter is 6250 as its just before the red it bouncesQuote:Fibs! lol
