help.... rattle noise when i accelerate ????? updated somthing called pinging or pinking??

as it says above as i accelerate well most of it is in 1st and 2nd gear but after that with the exhaust i cant really hear it as much, but i feel as if it is coming from next to the driver side front wheel and help of what this could be and what i could do to sort it??

really doing my head in now!!!

hello, could be wither a wheel bearing, track rod end, wishbone bushes of the engine mount lol theres prob more but they are the most likely whilst working at a garage hope that helps

I had the exact same thing on my Vtr, my dads a mechanic and he had a look at the exhaust system all it is is some lose brackets and bolts on the exhaust system, can easily be fixed just by tightening everything.

its a pain

i will see what i can do tomorrow i will go out and have a look at every nut and bolt on the exhaust tomorrow and see what happens i hope it is that as all i seem to get with my vtr is problems

hope it aint anything that cant be easy sorted.

roll bar linkages on mine, felt really unsafe and did my fucking nut in, that sounded like a loose exhaust untill i sat in the passenger side were it was rattling from

This sounds like my problem. Everything feels really wobbly when driving?

I also have a rattling, however made it quieter by tightening the centre pipe and manifold together.

i found on mine that once i fitted magnex catback the centre silencer was vibrating on heat sheild at certain RPM so i "persuaded

" it in a new posistion, and now no rattle/vibration

well just back from the garage and they said well i cant member word for word but in my words....... its called pinning or somthing they said that they went to put somthing in and there were no wires for it! somthing to do with the wiring loom for the knocking......!! somthing like that anyway. so if any1 has a slight clue of what i have just said, a know it dont sound right but i hope som1 with the skills know what i am talking about

does any 1 know how to stop this pinging!!

How'd they diagnose that ?

I wouldn't describe pinking as a rattling noise ? - not that I've ever heard it tbh

yes thats what it could have been called mate couldent really make him out could have been pinking. well its more like a fast pinging noise a dont know how to explain it

and the said the went to put in a new knock sensor or somthing and there was nothing to plug it into!! no wire loom???

any help please???

Pinking happens when the ignition of fuel happens too early in the combustion cycle. Is also called pre ignition.
In the old days the distrubuter would be backd off a touch until the symptoms go away.
These days a knock sensor is used to do the same thing

yes i know that mate and my girlfriend uncle owns his own garage and he went to put it in to solve the proble well thats what i thought anyway but he said when he went to plug the knock sensor in there was no leads there to plug it into ??? i am confused a dont know what to do

are they anything i can do to help stop this and that its not going to cost alot??? as i really want this sorted and this noise to go away as i love my vtr and i have put my own touch to it so that when people look the like it well some might not but i want them to look when they hear me coming with the exhaust and that not this noise coming from it

put higher octane fuel in, this stops the fuel from pre ignition in the compression cycle

Mate, have you tried tightening all the exhaust/manifold up?

Could just be that before you blow a load of money.

well i had it in the garage the day and thats what they said it was so i dident bother having a look at the exhaust or mani but i think i will go out tomorrow and and a little look i think

i hope or wish even it was just that

costing me a few bob on it already to get it through its mot

i think i might try that if all the bolts are tight like Jarhead and others have said i will try the different fuel as i think of it.... it seems to be kind of chugging a little aswell so could be the fuel a dont know am not that clued up on engine's or things to go with it

hey all well i am just thinking there it cant be my exhaust as it would still make the same noise when i am idle and rev the car???

could it have anything to do with the filter?? as am thinking it was working fine to start with when i got the car and just a couple of weeks ago i changed the filter from a k&n filter to a piperx filter?? and when i think of it it kind of started about that time but just not that loud of as much.

any ideas would be great gaz

exactly what i would of wrote. Im under the car tomorrow trying to sort this 2.

You mention a slight chugging? i think this is the exhaust blowing. Take the silencer off or see if it is lose? i have what sounds like the same problem and i fixed it by tightening the bolts up, however it still blows as the lip on the centre pipe has rusted over time. Let me know if you have a look or not. ;-)

how much would i be looking at getting a new 1 and fitted?? but i have heard that much stuff of what it could be i dont want to be doing it all when i dont need to

if you get me paying all this money out on things that it dont need it is really doing my head in. i am thinking if it was the wheel bearing would it not do the same noise when its driving all the time and not just when i accelerate?? not sure as i dont know anything about that is just really the body work i would try myself
