temperature warning light, constant heat issues

right, so recently (2 days ago) my sister drove the car for about half an hour, managing to lose the coolant reservoir cap at some point and o evaporating it all.
filled it up again, new cap, and was expecting it to be fine (silly me). turned it on, the temperature warning light was on, and it was registering no heat, ive flushed out the system, checked the thermostat element, the radiator has heat across the entire surface.
what precisely is the problem? i have assumed it would be the temperature sensors, but need some advice as to where they would be.
    many thanks in anticipation,

*should probably state its an x reg 1.1 petrol

i had this problem, got half a mile up the road and warning light was on,
it was my head casket that was the problem fella,
if its not that it will be your water pump, but i think its your head casket

i fort you ment over heating, if it says i cant senor a heat, try your heat senors, put them in boiling water, and the spring should pop out, if not thats the problem, cheap fix as well

yeah, one of them must be working, as it registers a heat, and the heat changes over time, normalising at about halfway point, ideally temperature sensors are the problem...seeing as ive spent most of my funds on crashing it...
the thing is, the lights on as soon as i turn the key, dont even have to properly start the car, which suggests its a sensor problem, just need to know where the sensor are and how to get them out to fix it, google for that
bit ironic really, i crash it and it still works, my sister takes the mic, then she manages to break it in one sitting...
