Raceland Enclosed Query

  1. #1
Hello im 17 and have owned a VTR for a few months now. I have an X Reg VTR; 1998-2001 Silvertop cover with catalytic convertor under the car, 1 plug ecu = 90bhp.

It came with a Stainless steel Exhaust; (mid and back)

I have been reading around the forums and am deliberating over getting a Raceland Enclosed Induction Kit with the Medium priced Green Filter.

I have heard it said that this will not fit my model VTR due to it needing two breathers ? Doesnt sound right to me but thought i would clarify this first. Is this true ?

Secondly, i am aware that this will not make the same noise as an open air filter but will i still notice some sort of growl ?

Thirdly, i am aware the performance gains will be acute, but considering the stainless steel eurosport exhaust, if i bought this aswell, approximately how much extra BHP would i have ahead of the standard 90hp ? OR would this not be noticeable.

    Thanks in advance,

    James

No problemo matey , all you need to do is to get some brackets from B&Q or any hardware store and hammer them flat out then bend the last hole 90* and then mark it all up correctly where you want the filter box to sit then drill through your slam panel then assemble it all.

actually having looked at your VTR mate it is different to mine. Youve got the later silvertop. Will the kit still fit mine and have you noticed any gains from your kit performance wise and could you describe the noise ?

Yeah dude it will still fit the same and the sound is really grunty over 2500 revs, it will make people heads turn, power gains urmmm seems more responsive but not a great deal, its a good induction kit to have but just awkward to fit etc, i'll talk you through it tomorrow when i have spare time or something.

Got the enclosed 1 mate yeh ?

i found a speaker brackets from halfords to be better as u can bend them to fit with original bolts for air box as they are quite long so no need to re drill slam panel.

I got one ages ago but got too stressed trying to fit it so got rid. A guy on here knows the supplier and did a discount on them. I only paid about £30 but had just the standard raceland filter
  17. #17
I've got nothing to add to this but its refreshing that a 17 year old new member has done some research before starting a new thread, and also types in good english and uses proper punctuation.

    Well done mate!

Don't suppose you could direct me towards this guy ? A discount would make the purchase even more appealing. Cheers

I have nothing to say apart from the fact that it's nice to see a well constructed post rather than the typical illiterate shite we normally have on here.
  21. #21
why do you need to get brackets from b and q
  22. #22
Ok i have decided to definitely get one of the Raceland kits BUT another issue needs clearing up first

What is the difference between the Raceland filter supplied and the optional Green filter one. Will switching to the green filter for an extra 35 pounds affect the noise / performance ?

    Is it worth it ?

Any advice would be much appreciated
  23. #23
Green Filter is a better quality filter thats about it. Probably wont see much bhp gain from this but they sound pretty good. Mine sounded pretty good at FCS on track near the top end.

cos the ONE supplied doesn;t reach or fit. so new brackets are required to fit it to slam panel

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but anyone got any pics of how to fit the kit to a vts?? My question originally was where do the 2 sticky pads go, but after reading about the bracket not fitting, I'm now slightly confused
  26. #26
There is no need to be stressed about it mate.
Here, this is a picture of my Raceland:

As you can see I have marked all the places with red where the problems might occur and with green where the brackets should be fitted.
Red #1 - in my case the pipe was just not long enough so the perfect fitment wasn't possible. You will need to twist and stretch a little bit the rubber and to tighten it up well so you'll be assured that the throttle body and the pipe are well connected.
Red #2 - I've bought one size bigger battery, so the cutting off a small peace of the plastic was needed. If you have a standard battery you might not face this problem.
Red#3 - this place is where the air box gets to close to the engine. So to avoid melting you should make a small circular cut which will not harm the air box but will make space from the cylinder head.
Green #1 and #2 - people put the brackets there, but I didn't because I think they have no purpose. First of all the induction kit is tightly attached to the throttle body, leaned on the battery and on the radiator at the front. So it has no space to move at all, especially when you close the bonnet.
As for the 2 sticky pads I glued them to the lower part of the air box where it was rubbing of the radiator.
So as I said mate nothing to worry about! It can all be fitted nicely with out putting big efforts - just patience.

Think I found out what the sticky pads are needed for:

The enclosure when done up tight was still really loose around the pipe, quick fix seemed to be use the sticky pad!!

Gonna have a bash at fitting it shortly.

Right after trying to fit this thing I'm now regretting buying it Did the person who designed this thing ever look at a saxo engine bay???

Standard Air intake parts was hard enough to take out, but then seeing that the powersteering reservoir needs to be moved aswell as the problems with the battery and the cam covers, but I'm no mechanic and the fact is I just cant seem to fit it right, is there anyone in the wiltshire area that can help fit this thing? Or would it be easier to get a different kit?
  29. #29
Finally bought one ! Just need to fit it now
  30. #30
i got one but doesn't fit due to the battery being to big previous owner has put in the wrong size. need to get a new battery before i can get cover on mine good luck fitting yours.

To anyone who is thinking of buying a raceland enclosed induction kit:

In summary, this kit is a shockingly manufactured, cheap piece of shite.

For starters the scoop came with numerous drill holes missing; as in they hadnt actually been drilled - it looked as if somebody had done half a job. Then there is the fact that it comes with no fitting instructions - just a diagram of what to connect where would have been nice. Leading me onto my second point, although i cannot comment for all VTR's this kit does not fit the first silvertop 90bhp mk2 VTR. The connectors supplied are ill-suited for the task and it is impossible for the Power steering resevoir to clear the scoop, rendering it useless. Finally, although this has been said many a time, the bracket is not suitable for connecting it to the slam panel - or the screw on the rocker.

So for all those interested its £115 for 2 pieces of plastic, a pipe, a bit of rubber and 2 filters. All in all, an absolute fucking disgrace.

Good job after the current batch sells out they are no longer being produced.

Ive been pondering about wether to buy one or not, I think im just going to give it a miss and get a BMC. Too much hassle for me!

had one on my vtr. just took the enclosure off, it ALWAYS fell down onto the manifold and melted.
  34. #34
when i got mine i got a set of brackets from wickes and used the same holes and bolts that the original cold airfeed went to. just needed to drill a slightly bigger hole in the bracket and fits perfect
  35. #35
mine fitted fine took about 15mins. but i did my research first bout having to move things which i didn;t have too. but did buy new brackets and not had a problem since
  36. #36
It may well have fitted yours because you have a 2003 98bhp mk2; mine is different. Even the garage couldn't fit it. So don't get rude and imply I hadn't done my research - I had. It's a poorly manufactured piece of kit. Say no more.
  37. #37
its a kinda universal kit so there will be imperfections. most of my mates in area had one on mk1 and they had no problems with it either.
if u search thro the threads you;ll see to move power steering some have used the bracket supplied from the induction kit to shift it over enough out the way. then all you need is new mounting brackets which were 1.99 in halfords.

and as for garage not fitting it, a garage couldn;t fit my new backbox said it wouldn;t fit. i managed to fit it tho just took the time to align it properly.
