FIRE!!!!

  1. #1
my car has decided to act a wolly again and mess up,

when my head lights are not on and i brake my head lights flash and all my dials flash,

when my head lights are switched on my brake lights are on constantly, my indicator bulbs flash super fast, my cd player lights up twice as bright,

ive spoke to a mechanic about it and he said maybe your cables have shortened out and could catch fire and theres a good 80& chance......

is this true, and how much can this cost to fix
  2. #2
could happen. but a fuse will most likely go out first. get the battery out now!!!!

    full electrics expensive
  3. #3
and i can also smell a burning now and again coming from the dash board!
  4. #4
all the fuses are fine fella, checked them about 20mins ago,
my cd player yday cut out when i was out with scottp_04
then today its kicked back in with a burning smell and it super bright, all the heating simbles are glowing up and they normaly dont,
  5. #5
sounds like youve cooked your in car fuse boxs!!........over load..........
  6. #6
i'd either look under the dash or take it out and have a really good look for any bare/loose or split wires mate.
  7. #7
when i mean fuses i mean they will break, and that will give you a more likely chance of finding what has gone wrong
  8. #8
dunno how ive cooked it tho, ive got everything inside all standard apart from a head unit what ive had for 6 months, my re lay box last month was playing up but then sorted it self out, my revserse light doesnt wana work but the bulb is fine, omg electrics!!!!!!!

me and my dad pulled every fuse out and not one has broke

Mechanics say bullshit. Its simply an earthing point somewhere around your car, check the front footwells and see if any have fallen or rubbed out, check the rear ones as well, also the engine bay. Most importantly the earthing point on the battery and see if that works.
  11. #11
I had a problem like this but first I had my amp blow, then my front speakers working intermittently and then had a fuse keep blowing and when it did id lose my indicators, power steering and radio. It turned out to be my head unit which was faulty and was either shorting things out or sending excessive current through the circuit. Start with simple things then move onto bigger.

short on your earth leads somewere........

Finally someone who knows what they are talking about

Had many problems with people having earth wires loose after fitting ICE, mostly Subs which they have undone bolts to earths and not put them back correctly or even at all.

Its simply walking around the car and tightening the earth leads and checking that they are all in an OK condition Simple mate, takes a hour or two locating them but its alot cheaper than a auto electrician who will rape your arsehole along with taking your money
  16. #16
i aint fitted no ice son, my car same with a head unit and its been fine for 6 mnths, so i will look around for these earth cables
  17. #17
Could be as simple as someones foot in the footwells rubbing against the side, or as said before, the headunit itself tripping it off Hope you get it sorted
  18. #18
me 2, cos when i drive in day i brake and my head lights flash ppl lol, at night ppl behind think im braking non stop lol

i made it home, still a slight burning smell and now my light on top of my plate aint working, its getting rather un safe to drive
  49. #49
your problem is you have put a single filament bulb in one or more of your rear lights they take dual filament bulbs one for the rear light one for the brake light, i did this a few months ago same problems with head lights and dials underbraking,
