Crank Pulley VTS

  1. #1
Just been searching about and I think my crank pulley on my VTS is nakerd

It makes a pulsing squeaking sound at low revs at first on start up and when under load (from power steering etc) it can make a constant squealing noise

But what I couldn't find is what I need to repair it?

The GMC pulley? and a new belt?

    What's been done before?

    Cheers

it will the the inner rubber which has perished causing it to wobble. a gmc pulley is good as its solid so the problem will never occur. and yeh a new belt will be needed as its likely urs has stretched. look down the side of the engine (cam belt side) and u might be able to see it wobbling...if you dont u may just need to tighten up the belt by screwing the tensioner

    As above, correct.

Not quite sure how much the pulley is though, can check with our suppliers?

forgot to say they also gear down the alernator slightly so it requires less energy, therefore less drag (Y)

I don't think its wobbling ill triple check at lunch time and I think the belt is pretty tight to be honest (I'll check this too) and how do i gear down the alternator?

Depending on how badly the rubber is perished it might not wobble.
The belt comes off pretty easy so could just whip it off and see if there is much movement on the pulley.

The new pulley will gear down the alternator, Not sure on the GMC kit but the one i got came with a new crank pulley and alternator pulley.

Mine has a squeak on tickover. It goes away for a few seconds then comes back for a few seconds. I heard a saxo coast by in a car park and that was making the same noise.

I think its a common problems on 1.1's like mine.
