advancing timing without adjustable pulley

so the time has come to fit my rebuilt head along with a PT11

iv read the best gains made before a map has had the timing set 2degrees advanced.

can 2degrees be achieved on standard pulley or is it an anjustable jobby?

as i reckon a tooth in advance will be more then 2 degrees!

    anyone shed any light?

count teeth on cam pulley -divide 360 by number of teeth and theres your answer--yes its alot more than 2 degrees.you could always remove the locating notch on the cam wheel --move it correct amount ,then drill both wheel and cam and fit a roll pin to lock it--most peole would chicken out and buy a vernier pulley--no the vts one does not fit

jsut to get even more silly ,you could machine up a steel ring to press on to the front idler to alter length of belt thus advancing the timing .
    .
cheaper and easier to buy a pulley

Every engine is different, so yours might not necessarily make best power at 2 deg advanced.

Buy yourself an adjustable pulley and have someone reputable with rolling road facilities adjust the timing for you.

i would recommend you dont do that, i do cambelts everyday at work, and if i set the cam pulley 1 tooth out of timing it would more than likely bend valves or be very close and cause poor running and missfiring, get an adjustable one as they are good for very small adjustments (which is what 2 degrees is)

You can only increase the length of a toothed belt by a tooth at a time. Not infinitely. So would still adjust the pulley by a tooth at a time as well.
