my abs light has just appeared in my saxo, i look it to an wide open space, (runway) and at 60mph stood on the brakes, the left wheel locked and the right side did its abs thing, the car started to spin. do i need a new pump or is it just a clean the sensor job? i know it sounds like a dangerous way of testing the abs but on my old alfa it just used to stay on even when it worked. cheers

#2just try cleaning it first
then if that doesnt work replace the sensor -
#3As above.
Forgot how much they are, but they aren't that expensive to replace. -
#4£52 rear each
£65 front each
at eurocarparts -
#5Light came on mine today.
Stand on the brakes and it tries to turn/spin to the left towards the kerb.
So I assume its the left side but cant tell ifs its front or back
Didnt realise they were that expensive either -
#6do they have abs sensors on the back? fuck me i didn't realise they did
-
#7Take it yours is a vts
if so yer. I was thinking it could be the rear as mine feels like it wants to spin kind of like the handbrake is on if you hammer on the brakes once it slows to below 10-20mph -
#8if ABS light is on the abs is deactivated as a safety measure, so your experiences are just from individual tyre grip, camber of the road, weight on each wheel etc etc. needs to be put on diagnostics £10 ish will give you a 100% accurate conclusion on which sensor needs cleaning or replacing.
-
#9So it definatly deactivates them all?
Might have to to give it ago in an empty open car park where its 100% flat. Might been I have a sticky caliper too
-
#10yup, its a safety measure, could you imagine the result if two sensors on the left hand side failed under heavy breaking in the wet the car would swerve drastically to the right and most likley spin.
-
#11if i remember right diagnostics only tells you if its front or rear but not which side... i may be wrong... but i know both rear are same and both front are same there is no o/s n/s variation....
-
#12There is a guide on here somewhere that explains how to test the sensors with a multimeter from the multiplug that sits on top of the ABS pump. have a search or someone may be able to dig it out for you.
My light was on and i had no clue which sensor it was. Used the guide and found out it was the N/S rear sensor. I replaced the sensor and the light went off. -
#13Nah it does say which sensor it is whether its N/s or o/s , front or rearQuote:if i remember right diagnostics only tells you if its front or rear but not which side... i may be wrong... but i know both rear are same and both front are same there is no o/s n/s variation....
Yeah it was on 106 owners, somewhere lol.Quote:There is a guide on here somewhere that explains how to test the sensors with a multimeter from the multiplug that sits on top of the ABS pump. have a search or someone may be able to dig it out for you.

#14I've had a similar in the past on my saxo, there should be an orange wire/plug under the drivers seat just unplug it and re plug it in and should go off (the light)
Hope this helps.

#15How to find out what sensor is goosed.
They work using magnetic fields, so I can't see cleaning up a broken sensor making any difference. -

I think you are refering to airbag lights
Cheers for the link Lee
How would you go about checking it with a multimeter. ie put a pin on each one but what reading would you be looking for?
Im a thicko when it comes to electronics -
#17you need to measure the resistance of the pins, you should be reading about 1100 Ohms on the correct pins, you need to find the pic on 106 owners to know which pins.Quote:I think you are refering to airbag lights

#18Yip, the diagram in that link shows the two pins for each sensor. Check the resistance across each one - as Jordysport has said, roughly 1100 ohms means the sensor is fine, my broken one was showing 0 ohms.

#19Spot on I will dig the multimeter out at the weekend

#21my cars gay as its a mk2 but one of the very first so still has an array of mk1 parts on it so it will be a suprise
