next step for my gti

i got a 1997 R reg 106 gti with enclosed ecosse induction kit with pipercross filter and a 4-2-1 manifold, stainless steel decat and a stainless magnex cat back exhaust system

i am thinking of fitting turbo to the car at the end of this year maybe begining of next year

i want to get some more power out of my car before i fit the turbo, is there anything i can fit to the car now which wil improve performance that will help when i turbo the car?

Well, if you are turbo'n your gti, id get some of the handeling aspects done. This is because you will get all the performance when you put the turbo and bits on.

4-pots, descent suspension set up wether it be psx kit or bilstein set up, polybush's, uprated arbs.. the usual.

but thats just my personal opinion.

    fast road camshafts?
  4. #4
Surely it would just be replaced with a camshaft to suit the turbo, when he install's that?

    EDIT: Spelling fail.

Theres no point fitting fast road cams if your planning on getting a turbo.

Don't spend any money on the engine if your going boost
Spend it on the brakes & suspension, tyres
  7. #7
Brakes and suspension are done i now have 406coupe brembo brakes and full spax suspension setup, could i fit any cams that will be noticeable now and help with the turbo

Is there any point getting a turbo? Won't it cost as much as the turbo kit just spending on bits to keep it reliable?

there are a few cars running an aggressive cam on turbo but 99% of people dont as they dont like it much tbh

i wouldnt bother tbh unless you can get some cheap to use then sell on when you go boosted
    but its messing about like

i'd spend your money on stand alone management, and a re-map it may well gain you some extra performance, and your going to need it in the future anyway to run the turbo. It'll also future proof your gti if you change plans i.e to run bodies and cams instead
  11. #11
dont bother with a turbo cam just yet, once you have sorted some decent rubber, suspension and brakes crack on with getting it boosted

a wild turbo cam can be dailed in later on.

thought you were buying the vts/gti bottom end in the forsale section??

whats the benefits of remapping a near standard engine? wouldnt it need to be remapped anyways if you had boddies and cams?

any modification however small will work at its optimum when mapped properly to the car, so like i said he may gain a little performance, also buying the management now will spread the cost of the turbo conversion out as he will need management to run a turbo properly (unless going 5th injector and piggy-back, but thats not really the way to do it).

And yes it would need to be mapped again to run bodies and cams, but having the management already installed just gives the options for change.

yea but when you buy aftermarket management usually the price includes mapping, so if you get it mapped its gonna cost a further £300 or so to get it mapped again, where you could have it mapped when all the work is done saving a lot of money, thats just how i see it

thats what i thought, im with you on this one sam
surely its not gunna make that much more power being mapped with a mani and induction kit?
its alot of money to waste having to do it again

Seem to give poo torque figures

To the OP if you want info on strapping a turbo to an otherwise standard car i recommened a search, as these threads come up atleast twice a week and there's always a few people that humour them

i still dont understand what your on about? shes saying theres no point in remapping a car standard to just have to do it again when you've modified it so why does it matter what ecu you use?
  22. #22
Cos with pred it doesn't matter if you need it mapped again it won't cost extra.

oh right ok didnt know that, would have been a good idea to explain these things instead of just writing "that..." lol
