16v JP4 Cam Cover Fitting

  1. #1
Read a few places that you have to screw the 16v cam covers on only a certain amount of turns.

    Is this correct?

If so, how many turns is it and what are the effects if they are put on too tight/too loose?

    Thanks

isit just because they are plastic?

meh should have sticked the j4 covers look sexy when polished up lol

as sam says im guessing if they are plastic you dont want to be splitting it and if you dont do it up enough you are going to get oil all over your engine bay

thanks lads, i just presumed you do them up till their tight but after seeing this thread about J4 covers and the post about fitting them it got me a little confused.

there WILL be a specific Nm measurement to tighten them to but when i fitted mine i just did them until they were tight at the end of the day how many bolts do people actually tighten up to the exact amount of Nm

When i fitted mine i just did them touch tight first, then gave them one last turn. They are plastic, but around the hole they have like a little built in metal washter, so its metal on metal not plastic on metal when tightening. So you shouldnt crack them really. But the seals on the JP4's are really good so should stop any leakage

Then i just sat and let the car tick over for ten mins to check their was no leaking when the oil was upto temp

Just do them until they are nice and tight don't go mad though as you risk stripping the threads and that would be bad news! Same if you detroy the heads of your new bolts!
