Gathering 16v parts

  1. #1
    Question..
Can i start gathering parts for a 16v conversion that doesn't got from same car? like a wiring loom, a ecu, a rad hose, a fuel return etc etc

or does ecu have to come from the car the engines out of

ECU can be of a different year as long as its either 1 plug or 3 plug which the loom should be matched to. Loom for your car will be simple to pick up.

Engine can be from any year as they were all the same, Fuel return is simply plumbed in using fuel pipes, get the pipes from halfords iirc. Rad hose from any engine.

as long as everything comes from the engine you need you'll be fine ie if you need a single plug engine make sure the loom and ecu come from a single plug engine, but thats pretty obvious, anything else will pretty much be the same

oh the only thing i can think of is if your fitting a vts engine make sure you dont buy a gti top rad hose or the other way round as they are different

well my ecu is 3 plug can i convert it to a 1 plug if i get a 1 plug ecu?

You'd be best off getting it all from one source tbh. It would be cheaper, and at least you'd know it came from a running vehicle.
I got everything needed for a 16V conversion for 300 quid.

Only issue with sourcing parts from all over the place is you dont really know if the parts work.. then when it doesn't start/you have problems, you wont know where to start looking.

yea i paid £300 for everything as well, and unless you really know what your doing ie done it 10 times already dont buy a single plug engine, why would you want to convert to a single plug anyway?? a three plug will be plug and play and could do the conversion in a day, also three plug engines obviously are gonna be newer, probably have less miles and generally gonna be in better condition. you really would be shooting your self in the foot by getting a single plug engine, also why do you want to get everything from different sources?? when there are plenty of conversion kits out there

it seams like you want to go about this the wrong way tbh
