power steering pump, vid

   hi
   
   i've posted before about my pump but just wanted to mkae sure it is the pump before i mess with it.
   click on the link should take you to a video of the pump and the noise its making.
   
   does it need changing? also i've tried hitting it with something but only works for a while.

   I'm in work so cant see the vid. If it works for a while when you hit it then its defo your pump on the way out. Phone round the scrappies and get yourself a second hand one (brand new will cost a fortune).

   Probably a shot bearing, like my one had. Unplug the pump to make sure the noise is coming from it, if so replace the pump like i did (i got lucky, i managed to get one for £20, and paid £40 to get it fitted!) the going rate for them is anything from about £50-£80, depending on where you go, if you're handy you can diy, so they told me.    cheers for the replys, got reconditioned pump for £80 not too bad.
   
   hmmm now need someone to fit it cheap lol

   A guy on here said he done his himself and it took him about 1/2 hour, just got to get the car nice and high to access it, after fitting turn the wheel from lock to lock plenty of times to bleed it. Or be lazy, like me and pay to get it done.....

   Hi, I think thenice is right, the noise is probably a worn bearing. £80 will get you a secondhand one and not a refurbished one. Refurbished ones are around £200.

   if i can remove it myself and take it to the garage i can get my new one on monday thats all.

    Yes it's simple to remove.
    
    1) unplug the pump electrical connector before starting
    2) Disconnect the high pressure metal pipe (outlet) 17mm spanner I seem to remember
    3) Disconnect the low pressure return pipe (return); you'll need a screwdriver to unclip the jubilee clip
    4) Undo the securing bracket nuts
    5) Remove the pump; drain and dispose of the fluid responsibly
    6) Remove the filler reservoir pipe - you'll need to transfer it to the replacement pump
    
    Fitting is the reverse.
    
    You'll need a litre of PAS fluid to topup. You'll need a small jubilee clip to secure the low pressure return pipe to the pump

    hi what kind of power steering pump is this? doesnt look like the one ive got.
    
    been to garage and this is what they had for a saxo furio. havent bought it obviously.

    noooo i went to the garage having phoned up asking for an electric pump and thats what i was shown when i went to have a look. but it doesnt look anything like the one ive got already in the car.
    
    mine has no pulleys, belts etc. just 2 tubes and an electric cable.
    
    doesnt matter now anywho, bought an electric pump for £130 reconditioned.
    
    so thats my job for the day sorted.

    Right, let's get this sorted once and for all! there are 2 types, one is a manual belt driven one, the other is an electric one-you have the electric one, simples!

    disconnected from electrics, took tubes of etc, cant get bloody bracket of, mates bringing his jack. so hopefully get it done tonight.
    
    1st time doing something myself not gone so well lol
