R888 group buy

  1. #1
Hi guys, i noticed this thread over on Rallye register...

group buy of twenty people needed for a set of R888 tyres.... for just £200
Would even be tempted to get two sets for some track days!

    Post up on there.

I dont know much information about it, but will try and help

i cant post on rallye reg.

But i would 100% take 2 sets of GG (medium compound) 195/50/15 so that equates to 2 people so if you can post on there then put my name down.

Stevey is my username on there but reached my free post cound limit.

I doubt he'll be able to get them for £200 though. He looks like he's trying to do the same group buy as 205 drivers did in December, but that was when a full set was £240-£260. Since then the price has doubled - hence a full set in 195/50/15 being £400(ish) now. If he can get a set for £200 though, i'll take 2 sets
  4. #4
I'll put you on now Steve
  5. #5
depends when they intend on doing it.. because i need mine like NOW. mullered a set of fronts at rockingham on sunday.
  6. #6
if these can be had for £200 i will definately have a set, so can somebody please put my name on the list for a set of 195/50/15 in GG compound

    thanks
  7. #7
    + 1 if this is true I'll have a set for £200
  8. #8
Ill jump on that aswell if they are £200 a set.
  9. #9
+1 if they can be Got for 200 a set id be interested
  10. #10
I'd almost put money on they not being £200 a set - and I never really gamble
  11. #11
Even the smallest size (14s) is £83 of camskill so a full set of 15s for £200 is impossible.

  13. #13
Down for 1 or 2 sets if the price is anything under 300 ill be happy nevermind 200!
  14. #14
For those of you who can't post on the RR, it's up on 106oc too.

Although as said, a set of 4 for the price of 2 sounds a bit optimistic, fair play if he pulls it off though.

  25. #25
Will be good to get some sort of confirmation on price even if it does (and probably will) work out more.

Certainly for £200 ill take a set aswel if someone can pop my name down somewhere. Id still be interested up to £300
  26. #26

  28. #28
keep me posted if this happens

100% want at least one set if they are this price
  29. #29

Ah no worries im sure my proxes 4 will do on the ring.
  34. #34
are these coming out at £200 has anyone spoke to the bloke yet.. i would buy a set..
  35. #35
At the moment they are coming out at £72 a tyre which works out @ £288 delivered, which is a bloody amazing price! Your easily looking at £380-£400 for a set somewhere else, cheapest I can get them is £350 and that is through my mates' garage!

However...the guy is still working on the prices and is pretty sure he can get them even cheaper than £72 a tyre. He's contacted a few other garages and toyo direct, so will probably hear something more this week, be patient - might get them for a bargain .
  36. #36
been keeping my eye on it, am probably only in for 1 set now if someone wouldnt mind editing the list?

    Good man for bumping this
  37. #37
Pretty sure there will be another 'confirmed' list anyway steve so its not a problem.
  38. #38
where can i get them from 288 delivered? i need some now
  39. #39
put my name down for 1 set and keep me informed as to when payment is needed
  40. #40
Check the thread on rallye register. Drew o has contacted someone that said they will beat 288 a set but are waiting for them to return to work on the 11th to organise it for Early-mid august!
  41. #41
i will have another set worn by then

Any advances on this yet Harv? Bloody good price already that you've managed to knock them down to, but of course every little helps so if theres still bargaining to be done thats great
  46. #46
It's not me doing it , I was just adding to the thread on here to give people a few updates. Drew_o is organising it from Rallye Register, I understand another place says they can 100% beat £288 a set delivered but Drew won't get a price until after the 10th July.

If he can get them for around £250 a set I think i'll take 4 sets .
  47. #47
Thats awesome news mate. Eagerly awaiting the updates. Moneys waiting so im good to go anytime the finalisations are made
  48. #48
im down for this, do i need to go on rr to get it or is there something on here goin down too?
  49. #49
Nope its all on the RR Yates.

Quite a few people say it won't happen as getting them for say £250-£280 is like a 1/3 off which is pretty damn high, but Drew seems to have got genuine quotes. I've heard bigger companies can negotiate up to 50% off depending on how much stock they buy, can only wait I guess.

    I would happily buy 4 sets @ £288..
  50. #50
I'll keep my eye on this, will be definitely get a set at that price!
  51. #51
Could do with a set myself will see what the price is on rr when he gets contact with the company.
  52. #52
if he will include a set of 185/55/14's in that for 200 ill have a set of 4
  53. #53
where is the best place to get a set now? price wise. i have tryed camskill and it was £380ish for 15's!

    bump the above question
  55. #55
camskill was pretty much the cheapest place i got some from there for 360 a few months ago
  56. #56
    interested in a set to
  57. #57
ill have a set for £200 and will prob no more ppl that will want a set
  58. #58
confirm prices and im in for 1 set poss 2, my tyres are the only thing letting me down atm!!
  59. #59
I would be intrestd in a set if it a 200!
  60. #60
Theres now way they will sell them for £200 lol... I think £288 is probably the best price anyone will get, saving over £100 for a set - thats bloody good. Anything below £280 is an unbelievable price - they are £380 + delivery from camskill, your looking at £400 a set quite easily..

To anyone who thinks these will be fine for a day to day road car - have a good think about it. When its pouring down and standing water is on the road they are very dangerous, your basically aquaplaning everywhere - especially with autumn/winter not too far away. They are fine in the damp, much more grip that the usual road tyre. You will probably only get around 4-6,000 miles until they become border line illegal, maybe more it all depends on how you drive.

I wouldn't personally bother with them at all if you don't do trackdays, unless of course you have a high spec car.. Proxes T1R's will do fine for road use - £128 a set from camskill, or other options could be Spec2's, Pilots, Proxes 4's .
  61. #61
I will 100% have a set if they are less than £300
  62. #62
there was supposed to be a price update yesterday wasnt there?
  63. #63
Yer I want to know a final price, see what they can do them at.
  64. #64
Still no price update it seems. Payday is coming up so im eager to spash some cash on something decent
  65. #65
I know what you mean Willsy, I guess its just a waiting game now as to how long the company take to come back with a price.
  66. #66
i am home ready to pay, whats going on lol
  67. #67
The money is burning a whole in my pocket - why does it take an age when you really want something!!
  68. #68
hi guys ive joined to keep you all up to date ive contacted steve harkness at harkness tyres and at this moment in time toyo have no 195/50/15 in stock and are awaiting a batch to come in as steve is doing us a good deal trying to get them direct but cant confirm the price yet but he said it will be cheaper than 288 a set, also camskills wanted £80 a tyre in this group buy so i said no to them but once i get more info on stock etc i shall inform you and thank you for your patience

make sure you leave phone number and email if you will. easy to get hold of you then. i want quite a few of these. possibly 5 full sets.
  76. #76
any news on these yet fellas?
  77. #77
Did this die of death in the end?

If so where is the cheapest/best place to get a set of r888's in 195/50/15

as if just aquired some "track" wheels
  78. #78
    camskill.

this thing never going to come off by the looks of it.
  79. #79
how much are they from there any ideas? as the site doesnt offer much info. Best I have found is £100 a corner so far.

Also what compound do you usually go for?
  80. #80
GG medium. none of the others unless you are a sprint car you want soft.
  81. #81
Apparently Toyo haven't got any stock in the UK at the moment (not on the levels the group buy is after), as don't forget with 30 sets or so they will be coming directly from Toyo. Quite a few sites now say 'No Stock', Camskill will have stock as their warehouse is massive so probably order a few hundred sets at a time.

EDIT: Ring http://www.polleymotorsport.co.uk/po...ogue_tyres.asp for a quote on A048's, last time I rang they were cheaper than R888's!
  82. #82
Yer this is what I have found harv, loads of places can give me a quote but hardly any can get them.

    Will give polley a call.

Recon its worth a try on a group buy on the yokos are do you boys only really like the toyos?
  83. #83
    anyone know anything about these

    http://www.ears.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=290

Seen a few cars on trackdays before running them
  84. #84
I would 100% buy Yoko A048's over the R888's. I didn't notice much in the grip levels between them, but the Yoko's last a hell of a lot longer than the Toyo's. I went through 2 sets of R888s compared to 1 set of A048s and they have still got 1mm left!
  85. #85
I could see if I could get in touch with yoko direct if people are interested and see if I could sort anything
  86. #86
Hey could anyone PM me and let know if there is a group buy for 4 R888's in 195/50/15 as I have looked thru the whole thread and cant seem to work out if this is happenin or not.

    Thanks

    Fulch
  87. #87

  90. #90
yes share that price!!!!!!! i need some of that
  91. #91
I'm still after a set of either, maybe best to get a new thread up and see what people can do for the yokos?
I know kumho and Dunlop do a road legal semi slick any others anyone can think of?
  92. #92
I got lucky and found them in the motorsport for sale section on pistion heads.

Now sitting in my garage not new but only been used once so scrubbed in ready to go

Just need to find some wheels now to put em on
  93. #93
someone in the know needs to sort a group buy on the yokos, i would be well up for some
  94. #94
Worthwhile giving Polley a call, they supply all the sax max/stock hatch lot with Yokos.
And i would say have very good buying power.

Shocked at how much the R888's have gone up in price in the space of a year.
