Fuel loss.

Ive always thought my fuel doesnt last very long, but yesterday i went to get some fuel. I was in the reserve tank so i put in 15 quid. When i started up the car the fuel gauge went up to around just under half a tank. I drove about 15 miles to college. Then 3 hours later, got back into my car, and as i started it up, the fuel was just above the reserve tank?
So ive lost 15 quids worth of petrol in about 15 miles?
Surely that aint right, any suggestions why this is happening??

could just be losing fuel somewhere. jack the car up and have a feel around the tank, hoses etc. also around the fuel filter

or could be a dodgy fuel tank sensor/sender

yeah could be a dodgy sender unit. I went to skeggy yesterday i put £25 cause it was really low and i did 230 miles.... But when i put £25 in and just knock around town etc i only get like 160miles. And its all down to your heavy foot hahahahhaha
