yesterday i noticed grease coming from the front passenger side cv boot so got one to fit , looked in manual thought ok will do it , wheel off move strut out of way lower ball joint wishbone out of way but the end of driveshaft not come off . read in manual to drain gearbox oil so did that, then removed the driveshaft from the car placed in vice with soft jaws as stated in manual and the inner still wouldnt come away, phoned a mechanic and was told i should have used a wraparound type that you slip round the driveshaft + glue i`ve used these before + dont like them but thought ok will give it a go , fitted the cv boot + it glued ok as i went to replace the driveshaft into the transmission the inner boot split ! so had to take the driveshaft back off . i renewed the lower ball joint but this would not fit into the wishbone and kept falling out even when clamped up ( i had a hard time trying to remove the old balljoint )nothing would line up correctly, i was looking at the old balljoint + noticed it had been spot welded into the arm ( to stop it falling out likely ) why would that have been done? why wouldnt the new balljoint stay tight in the wishbone arm? i have now bought a new wishbone with the balljoint already fitted but what can i do about the driveshaft? looked on e bay but theres none for this car ( saxo 1.0 1996 ) ( i can buy the boot kit with the cone to slide the cv boot down for the outer) but what about the inner cv boot ? do i just remove the old one + replace with a new one as stated in manual? how much should that cost as our local car shop seems very dear , is there an easy way round this ? it seems to be alot of work just to renew a outer cv boot, i have done other cars but not had this hassel before .anyone got any tips . all help is much appreciated thanx.
