Decat- no sensors plugged it = over fueling?

  1. #1
My mk2 VTR is decat as I put a mk1 downpipe on, but there were no holes for the lamba sensors so I just taped them up and left them but my engine management light is on, will this make the car overfuel?
And what can I do to stop it without putting cat on or different mani on?
  2. #2
is the pre cat plug in or neither of them?
  3. #3
no precat lambda and your car will overfuel yes. drill a hole, screw it in. sleeve the post cat lambda
  4. #4
You want the pre-CAT lambda connected to adjust fuel trims.

It doesn't need to be screwed directly into the manifold, as long as it's somewhere in the exhaust before the CAT.

I've not had any of the lamba sensors plugged in for 20k+ miles, no problems, uses same amount of fuel.
  6. #6
The car runs, but the fueling isn't as 'refined' as it is with the sensor connected. If it wasn't needed, then cars wouldn't come with them.
  7. #7
So what have I got to do? Drill a new hole for the 1st sensor? And what's sleeving the other mean?
  8. #8
there should be a hole in the downpipe on the right hand side for the probe. odd one is that.

drill a hole and thread it, leave the other one wrapped up or put it into a sleeve of some sort
  9. #9
there is no hole on the actual manifold as the manifold and down pipe are off a mk1 1.1 or 1.5d lol ?!?!?!

and where would i get the tool from to create the thread for the lambda sensor?
  10. #10
you can get them from any good motorfactors, or find a bolt the right size as your probe and force that in to thread it.

i may be wrong in saying this but i'm pretty sure this is right....

without the lambda it will fuel incorrectly but when above 40% or 50% throttle, the fuelling is not off the lambda therefore making it fuel no differently.

i'm sure thats true, however, don't shoot me if it isn't.

Ok will see what I can do, will let you know
