brake pads and disc change... best way to remove caliper carrier bolts

  1. #1
now then going to change my brakes this week as they are needed to be done! i have changed the pads loads of times but never a disc so i just wanted to ask a few questions about this:

Q1.once the caliper is off to get the front disc off do you need to remove the carrier i have no luck with caliper carrier bolts so i was hoping to be able to just remove the torx screws and angle the discs out!??

Q.2 now then i always seem to end up rounding them whats the best way to remove the caliper carrier bolts?

    thanks

You need to remove the carrier from the strut.

None of this 'take the caliper off the carrier' nonsense. Don't even touch those bolts. Remove the whole thing with the 2 19mm bolts. Use a breaker bar if they're being a nuisance.

Remember to rest it on something, a spare axle stand or a box to stop strain on the lines.

Then the disc will come off as normal.

If you're on stock VTR brakes you can just slide the pads out and the new ones in. You might need to open the caliper up a bit by sliding it along the carrier but you can get old ones out and new ones in no problem. Whilst you're there I'd copper grease all the contact areas and the piston.

    Done.
