hi guys got a bit of a problem, very recently my car is just running too hot and the fan is having to kick in alot of the time. now i no the weather has been good as of late but it normally runs just under half way on the temp gauge and is now at half and a bit more if im stuck in traffic!!! its got a pannel filter with air hose as forced air feed, oil breather but thats it. iv also changed the oil and the coolant aswell a couple of days ago and it is still doing it
please all help is wanted

#2mine's doing the same, check for leaks in the radiator or pipes around there. Check to see if there's a puddle in your passenger footwell that might indicate heater matrix failure. or it could possibly be headgasket i believe.

#3Fan over-ride sensor?
Does the red light come on in the dash or do you notice it just because the fan kicks in? -
#4not got a leak under the car or in the footwell, have you sorted out wot the problem is with yours? is the headgasket a common problem?Quote:mine's doing the same, check for leaks in the radiator or pipes around there. just notice it when the fan kicks in the red light has not been on yet but does get too high for my liking over the half way marker on the gauge, it does not get over 3/4s of the way up but that is still way too hotQuote:Fan over-ride sensor?

#5Mine does this aswell
but only when i'm idle. It will go over half, then the fan will come on until it's back down to half, then turn off, and will keep doing this. When i'm driving it is fine however. Is this normal?

#6Fergie,
If your fan is coming on then the thermostat should be ok. When you changed the coolant was is a rusty redish colour? If so it indicates that the radiator internals are corroded.
Have you bled the system fully? Guide here:http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=98877
Headgaskets do fail if the car reaches excessive temperatures:
Symptoms:
1) Coolant in oil - yelowish mayo sludge on underside of oil filler cap
2) Coolant in cylinder/exhaust - whitish smoke from exhaust pipe
3) Excessive heating - bubbling coolant, over pressurised, coolant escaping from radiator filler cap - exhaust gases in coolant (Sniffer test can prove this).1 user thanked this post: -
#7I wouldn't worry! If you are going a bit hot then this should be quite normal in traffic with these hot conditions however as bobC says above could be the start of head gasket failure but that would get VERY hot..

#8@j_a_lyons,
Your car sounds perfect! -
#9i have numbers 2 and 3 lol. headgasket time!!

#10What people need to remember is that every engine has different characteristics especially modified ones, some naturally run hotter, some cooler. This is all depending on many things, my modified saxo runs over the middle but at 3/4 the fans will come on cooling it back down again. more power = more heat..

#11mine runs just above half most of the time, goes a tiny bit past 3/4 when thrashin it the fan kicks in abbout then. was up near the red when i bought it new thermostat sorted it still thought it was high though . my old vtr never went above half and the fan kicked in on half, so some engines must be different.

#12mines like this all the time i now take no notice and it just goes haha

#13you may have an air lock in the cooling system take the radiator cap off and let the car run for a little while check to see any bubbles come up and top up the fluid after air in the system will cause overheating give thata try1 user thanked this post:

#14when changed not got any colour in the coolant, not really bled fully which i might have to do tomorrowQuote:Fergie,

, not got any of numbers 1 or 2 but not herd of the sniffer test what type smell should i be looking for??
just about to try that thanks, finding this weird as its always run under since the breathing mods so not sure why it would suddenly change nowQuote:you may have an air lock in the cooling system take the radiator cap off and let the car run for a little while check to see any bubbles come up and top up the fluid after air in the system will cause overheating give thata try
