Furio to Vtr

  1. #1
Thinking of doing engine conversion to vtr just for bit more
speed and that coz was thinking they are going cheap on ebay and that
just wanting to know what i would need:

engine , loom, ecu what about box will furio fit and all the rest be ok
or is it more than just engine loom and ecu?

    Cheers

furio box will fit, to do it on the cheap you only really need the complete engine, loom and unlocked ecu simpless

You wont have to change the whole engine dude, there was someone over on 106 owners who had a 1.4 quiksilver and he had her running the same as a VTR, VTR inlet and few bits and bobs will be good .

you joking? thats a load of bollox

yeah there was a quicksilver at fcs that just had inlet and full exhaust and was same bhp as a vtr but for the price to do that i could get the vtr engine and then do the same and get even more bhp
  6. #6
it would take a shit load more than a vtr inlet and exhaust to get a furio the same bhp as a vtr, also its not just about power, the vtr engine has a load more torque over a furio as it has an extra 200cc, believe me mate its a load of shit, samueljonburgess off here has a furio with 4-2-1, decat exhaust, vtr inlet, cammed and its 87bhp iirc, and even he is doing a vtr conversion

For those with a 1.0, 1.1 or 1.4 engine lots of tuning mods can be done to improve performance, in fact the same ones and at the same price as on the 1.6, so why not get a 1.6 engine to start with. If you were to tune a 1.0 or 1.1 to the limit it would cost far more than a mildly tuned 1.6 and would still not have the power and to a lesser degree this holds good for the 1.4.

The great advantage of putting a 1.6 VTR engine into a smaller engine model (this can also be done on AX’s) is that as it is the same series of engine, the TU, it just goes straight in with no modifications. I know some people; especially those with 1.4’s will say that the VTR engine is only 90 hp and so very little more than the 1.4. Whilst this is true the VTR has been deliberately restricted by Citroen to make it less powerful than the 16v VTS otherwise no one would buy a VTS. They achieve this by putting on an exhaust system that reduces in size in the middle section so if you fit a good sports system like the Scorpion or Piper, the power rises instantly. One more thing that most people don’t consider is the torque of engine, they only look at horsepower. Torque is far more important, torque gives acceleration, and horsepower gives top speed. The 1.6 VTR engine has substantially more torque than the 1.4 so even if you do not tune the engine it will be far superior.

fair enough mate that quicksilver at show probs was a vtr aha but yeah thats what am
after more bhp and torque so just get vtr and pritty much straight forward just engine, loom and unlocked ecu? any problems i may run into at all with things not going straight
    forward anyone know?

tbh mate a lot of things could go wrong (not trying to put you off) but do it and if you need any help just have a search, or post up a thread, or you can even message me

but untill you do it theres no knowing what could go wrong, i had no problems at all with my vts conversion

ahhh cheers mate that helped and reason i wana do vtr coz looks same as the 1.4
  11. #11
well actually theres no thing, before you even think about connecting your unlcoked ecu to the loom, make sure the immobiliser box has been unplugged otherwise it'll make your ecu useless

aha check will remember that one

Each to their own. Okay it's wrong and it bumps up honest peoples policies blah blah blah........(insert Jehovahs Witness type statement of your choice here)....... Insurance is a rip off purely because the insurance companies have us by the bollocks and it's hardly murder changing your engine for one of slightly higher capacity is it? Go for it I say!! If you get caught though just remember it's your fault and don't be so stupid next time.

i dont see how they can even find out its a vtr engine without dyno'ing it.

Engine number, when it doesn't match the one on the V5.
1.4 is an alloy block IIRC, 1.6 is steel.
Different inlet manifold & throttle body.

yeah obviously i dont wana void my insurance so i shall get a quote for all you
honest people out there but forget it if its stupidly expensive, plus if they do find
out i know nothing about cars and was like it when i brought it

Would it be a better idea to go straight to a 16v engine conversion?
Or is that not an option?
