Hi, i was cleaning the underside of my engine the other day and noticed i have shit loads of oil all over it.

so i cleaned it all off and took her for a little spin so i could see where it was coming from.

i have taken a pic, any1 know why its doing this?

my 1st thought is that there is a rubber gasket seal perished there, but i dont know.

    Top of engine

    Bottom of engine

Any help would be great b4 i get my pants pulled down at a garage...

Sump needs re sealing by the looks of it. Its not a proper gasket either, simply sealant.

Your oil does look really thick though, when was the last time that it was changed :s

hahaha, i know i was almost embarassed to post the pic! XD

only bought it like 3 weeks ago, gonna get it changed on thursday (payday)

thats one thing i have meant to ask, what oil grade do saxos use, i forgotten what my old one took?

also, how much will it cost to solve the leak issue?

    thanks for the help btw

i use 10w40 regardless of recomendations.

could also be the filter if its not been changed for a long time.
allthough they usually rust and yours looks quite free from rust.

Newtz. you need to remove the sump,
loosen off all the bolts around the sump, remove the flywheel plate and loosen the nuts on the remaining edge.

tap in a couple of flat headed screw drivers between the sump and the block, avoid damaging both all around the edge of the sump and then pull it away.

scrape off the remaining sealant on both mating surfaces, remove ALL traces of oil and then apply the sealant around the sump, a simple bead is all you need between the holes and a circle of bead around the holes. Offer it up and re tighten all the bolts to 20 Nm.

leave the car for, and do not put any oil in the engine, for 24 hours to allow the sealant to properly cure.

    Sorted.
I had to do it myself a couple of weeks ago.

Although looking at the pic I'm wondering if there is a slight leak about the oil filter itself (meaning you just replace the filter).

    fingers crossed mate.

thanks for the informative post mate. i have printed it off and will use it as a guide if i need to do it. big help, cheers.

i was thinking it could be the filter, it could be leaking out and dribbling down that area.

hope it is. will find out on thursday, gettin engine bottom steam cleaned, then oil change/filter. if i notice it after that its gettin the resealed treatment!

    nice 1 pal.

also, s any1 else watching France get beat 2-0 by RSA?

but not sayin anything until after 2moz afternoon... karma has a nasty way of biting me in the ass!
