Please help, MOT fail!!

  1. #1
Hi there I just got my Saxo West coast 1.4 back from the MOT garage where she sadly failed on the emissions.
She only failed on both fast idles on the CO. Everything else passed.
We got given a fuel system clean and told to drive her around a bit with high revs the clean out the system but that didn't work resulting in another fail!

I just got a new Lambda sensor fitted and I'm not so sure what else I can do to try and help her pass.
Does anyone have any ideas to what it can be?

The garage seem to think its the Cat but I thought that would affect all the emissions not just the CO. Please help.

    Kym

ive had an astra and my vtr fail on emmisions both times i changed the cats and they both passed

Okay does the Cat mostly deal with just the CO emissions then?
    Thanks

My vts failed first time on dodgy cat but changed the cat's over then sorted pass real easy after that!

Ah so should I just try getting a new Cat then and hope that will sort it. Since getting it my cars had too much oil in it could that be a factor to the fail?
  6. #6
no but excess oil can damage the cat

Oh the garage that carried out the MOT are offering to buy and fit the Cat for £120-£150 is that a good price?

ah that's probably the answer too the problem then i bought new oil and a filter just change it after she passes MOT *crosses fingers*

price to supply and fit cat isn't that bad really, about the going rate provided its a good quality one and not a no-name special!

Haha yeah if you got it at that price i would expect them to be extremely fast at fitting it!

I would look around for a better price its just i want it done, that garage have been awesome they aren't classing any of the retests as a test until she passes, which is hopefully tomorrow as shes booked in again, if she fails i will be asking the guy to do whatever it takes to make her pass!

    did you ring dingbro kim
  14. #14
hi there sounds like you cat, mine did the same last year
  15. #15
dont bother with dingbro, phone up GSF parts - they will sort you out.

Dingbro's retail is actually more expensive than any other retailer, but GSF is where we get our parts from for trade, just ask if you can get discount - and its always overnight delivery if you order before 4:30

try ecp euro car parts also do trade aswell
  17. #17
did they give you any printouts with actual figures?
post em up if they did,

too much oil in the engine could cause an emissions failure due to the excess oil being burnt in and thrown out the exhaust. you would have noticed blue smoke also . but thats unlikely tbh . johny

did you take car for a good run on motorway before test that helps with emissions due to cat being nice and warm

    see everybody says this...
there is a reason why the car is left running during the MOT! so it stays hot.

taking the car for a good blast , high revs, high speed does help with emissions as it helps clear the crap out the car.

If lambda doesnt sort fast idle its gunna be the cat, if the cats knackered only a replacement will pass. Not a bad price but you're better off buying one from somewhere reputable like ECP or GSF and getting someone to fit as its a simple 10minute job and you'll only be paying a garage for the time it takes to get it on the ramp. 3rd time lucky
