Looking to make my own de-cat system up. I'm thinkin bout goin down the local scrappers(again) gettin 2 knackered centre sections then cutting the cat out of one and a similar size striaght section out of the other an welding them together. Am I right in thinking that i can mig them together or would i need to tig them?

#2mig is fine for mild steel. they will want a few quid for a cat since theyre worth a few quid scrap value, probably as much as a 2nd hand decat
-
#3U recon? How much do 2nd hand de-cats go for?
-
#4cant you sell the 2 cats back thou, as its the metal in the cat thats of value and he needs neither
-
#5could you not buy the one and use some other steel pipe to fill in the blank? not clued on this stuff to be gentle
-
#6why bother? its £11.99 or something for a mk 2 centre section? this will decat a mk1 like a straight through centre pipe? it would probably cost you more then that at the scrappy
-
#8Or why not buy the 1 spare cat and batter the insides out so its hollow?
-
#10for all the mucking about a decat is about 50 quid, all exhausts should be bent the only time welding is needed is to weld flanges on, there is a good chance a second hand cat will be almost rotten and almost imposible to weld.
-
#11I may have misunderstood the OP's intention regarding getting 2 knackered centre sections and chopping the cats out. see your point if he was taking the centre pipe and leaving the cat in the scrappies
-
#12why dont you just buy a legnth of exhaust tube from an exhaust specialist, shouldnt cost loads an then weld it up like you wher going to do anyway.
