last thread on this wanna make sure what people think before i get tha paints etc...

also best way to spray them??
goin to use hamerite on them i think, just give them a light sand and then spray them??
  2. #2
get some good quality masking tape aswell
  3. #3
    Yay for me!
  4. #4
ye? is that all it will need is a little rub down for the paint to grip?
  5. #5
best to rub it down abit, quick coat or 2 of primer and then you'll be fine
  6. #6
even with hamerite ill have to primer it??
  7. #7
ye, it will help, but tbh i wouldn't use hammerite

    Hammerite Smooth Finish Aerosol

Hammerite Direct To Rust Metal Paint can be painted directly onto rusty surfaces, and thanks to its special 3 in 1 formula there is no need to use a primer or undercoat - saving you precious time
  9. #9
ye it says that on can but i would recommend you prime it first, helps to stop chipping, which you'll get alot of on wheels

thats what i was guna use

if i give it a coat of lacquer for protection?
  11. #11
best to prime before, and lacquer after it
  12. #12
u can;t lacquer hammerite, it reacts cos its all in one spray. can says not to use lacquer before u jump on mirrorblanks.
and yes i did lacquer over hammerite to see and it does react, lifts all the paint off and flakes off
  13. #13
i've lacquered over hammerite and never had any reaction

personally i wouldn't bother with hammerite, i'd go to a paint suppliers and have them make up some cans
  14. #14
but have done everything tho and are amazing
  15. #15
whatever, pathetic you are, i'm trying to give him advice and your trying to one up me or something
  16. #16
    so is he...
no need to be rude to him mate....
  17. #17
    Looks great to me
  18. #18
just need to get the paint and rubber them up
  19. #19
seriously don't bother with hammerite, will look alot better getting some paint mixed up and put in cans from a paint suppliers and then clearcoat them
  20. #20
Yea as said be carefull with hammerite, it reacts with normal car paints. Definatley go for the red rims tho looks great
  21. #21
they are only steels mate a sand down and then hamerite i think no point spending more money than they are worth then i can spend money on nice tyres
  22. #22
ye they are only steels, why spend money on nice tyres
  23. #23
cos thats what keeps you on the road isit not?
  24. #24
bloody hell can you not get irony/sarcasm?
  25. #25
pritty good at sarcasm to be honest...
decent tyres are worth the money...
i only want to spray them up to give them a little glow not to be show standard

i appreciate your help and the fact you probs you do it for a living and know what your doing

    thank you
  26. #26
i sprayed my steels up using hammerite smooth and i used lacquer and it seamed fine tbh, but i haven't lacquered my borbets which i used red hammerite to do the lip, but that was only for a quick job if i keep the car ill get it done professionally, i used primer with my red dish as i was spraying on to a black wheel the red was way to dark, when i used primer it made the paint brighter
  27. #27
ye i think ill just hamerite them... as said they dont need to look 100%

was just guna do like a 1/4 of the wheel so you could only see a full red lip when driving haha!
  28. #28
    yep!!!!
  29. #29
Hammerite can leave an amazing finish if your confident with using it. The cellulose in aerosol lacqure will react i know first hand how badly so DO NOT lacqure hammerite.

they look prity sweet fair play
  32. #32
Imo Hammerite Smooth is a t*at to use. To get a nice, glossy smooth finish you have to put on quite thick layer's but it run's far too easily then.

Even Halfords aerosol paint would be better. I use some Hardhat stuff that i get from work and it's much! better than Hammerite Smooth.
