mot failure on rear brakes

  1. #1
hi there. had my mot 3 weeks back and it failed on a bit off stuff. did it again today and it failed on the back 2 brakles only. rbt was something like 46%.
the problem is i have changed both calipers since its last mot and these 2 calipers have been on the car litterlly a week with new pads. so is it just unlucky with another set of calipers or is it something else??

can anybody help at all please??

    many thanks

did you put new disc on with the pads if not do so
  7. #7
disk was really good condition anyway mate so i didnt think about doing it tbh

New cable? or needs re-adjusting could've stretched.

Is car lowered & if so was brake bias adjusted?

the pads might not be fully worn in yet, quick way to wear them in is to drive along the road handbrake up till it starts to bite, for no more than 10seconds release, give it a few mins do it again, repeat a few times.

The pads glaze over if not used and when are new. could be worth a try

make sure the compensator valve on the rear n/s is free
if stuck could be your problem
  12. #12
Y do I need a cable. No the car isn't lowered. The calipers
bled fine so not sure. Also I think the caliper pistons may be sezied so that willbe fun :/
  13. #13
Compensator spring had fallen off lol

well there you go!! at least it was something simple, glad you got it sorted!!! hate selling parts to people and then they have probs, knew the calipers were OK as we tried the rear brakes prior to taking the beam off! All MOT-ed now then?

agreed i was going to put it for sale after the test as well :9 now its cost me more then i thought i dunno whether to run it to the ground lol

try another garage mate see what they come up with.rear brakes on account for 25-30 percent of braking use so think ur man tryin to squeeze ur hard earned out of ya mate.

no the brakes are fine mate we sorted them out. its just the fact it was "a lamaba and itll defo pass" and now its gone up to "it needs a cat as well". it just ruins faith tbh. but its a cat and thats it fingers crossed so ive told him ill get the cat. rather then fork out a £100 one from a motor factors ill get one for £60 off ebay. either way its only used once a year
