ive replaced the oil etc its all fine but the oil and and handbrake light both stay on when driving until you go above 3000rpm then they go off, the car runs fine ive replaced the oil pressure switch thing in the engine and that made no difference so not sure what to do, my mechanic isnt sure either...
oil and handbrake light stay on up to 3000 rpm

#2Maybe the pressure switch is correct and you do have low oil pressure? Can you get a cheap guage and plug it into the place where the oil switch goes and check pressure?
Possibly an easier way is to disconnect the switch wiring and see if light stays on - you might have a short circuit somewhere but it still bugs me that it goes off at 3000rpm??
Best to check the pressure with a guage I think ...... -
#3duff oil pump?
has it been really low on oil at any point?
johny -
#4its always had the right amount of oil and it doesnt really use much either, the dash lights were working fine one day then it went into the garage for soemthing and it came out with the oil and handbrake light broken and staying on til 3000 rpm so i though mayeb there could be a loose connection or something but still doesnt explain why the lights go off at a certian point each time...

#5do they both go out together?!
Bare in mind that the handbrake warning brake light im assuming you mean the red one with this symbol (!) Is actually a STOP warning light..
What could be happening is that you are not getting enough oil around the engine at low revs due to low pressure. This could mean the engine until 3000 rpm thinks it is unsafe due to low oil pressure hence keeping the stop light on until you reach a pressure where the oil is circulating fine.. so they both go out together.
Maybe?! -
#6yeh they both go out together i just tried reving it there in neutral without the handbrake and both the lights went out at 2000 revs its a tough one
the oil is all fine and the car sits in idle etc no problem

#7Could be low oil pressure, i dont know, have you had it on the diagnostics at all?
-
#8nope that sounds expensive...
-
#9Only thing to do is get oil pressure checked with a guage then you will know for sure if that is the problem. You can get a cheap aftermarket guage and t-piece (fits in same place as oil pressure switch) to try this or ask a garage to check it.

#10sounds like the pump is partially blocked as has been run low at some point during its life... either that or the pump is on its last legs!!
