For some reason i can't turn my key in the ignition, I can't get it past the first notch, i can release steering lock and the battery lights appears on the dash but thats it...

i had just changed the coil pack, had the battery disconnected but i can't see why that would do anything.

It did turn about half an hour ago then when i tried it again it didn't. ive disconnected battery for ages and tried again but nothing.

is it the immobiliser or something else?

car is 98 plate vts with alarm.

    Hi Ben,

Sounds like its the ignition barrel. Try wiggling the key, gently pulling it, tapping it...

Try your key in a door lock to see if the key is mangled.

They key works fine in both doors.

Still won't turn past the 1st notch in the ignition what else can I try or will I need a new key?

I think you need a new ignition barrel. You'll need to order one from Citroen so that it matches your original key.

Any idea on the price of one of these?!

Any idea on the price of an ignition barrell? They key doesn't turn in the passenger door either, and it does look slightly worn on one side (not totally symetrical)

Hi, no idea on a price for a barrel. I guess you don't have a spare key to try? As it doesn't work in the door then the problem may be the key.

Citroen can cut you another key IF you have your key number. See: http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=228926

However, as you now suspect your key you'll not be able to go to Timpson.

I spoke to Timpson today and they said they can cut me a new key and hopefully make it more pronounced like the original, it's worth a try as I expect an ignition barrel to be expensive.

I don't have the key number and wouldn't give my money to Citroen if I can help it.
