right the other day i changed my speed sensor because my speedo doesnt work ... (btw it still doesnt work ) but just becuse i was curious i put some gloves on and stuck my finger in the hole where it sits and felt that teath only went round about a quarter of the hole if that makes sence where as there are teeth all over the actual sensor .. is this normal ?? has the old one broke all the other teath or is it just the french being diffacult :/

most probably your dials have broken common fault in these cars, i've got loads of mk1 dials, here if you want to test it??? just up the road in cullompton

Ok, then what i would do first is fit a multimeter on the pins of the sensor, (not sure may need a 12v supply. but anyway spin it by hand see if it changes in Voltage or resistance on the multimeter (may be very small change as relativly your spininng it slowly) if you do get a reading put the sensor back in bolt it back up and get some wires and feed it to the inside of the car attached to the multimeter, go for a drive and see if it changes,

If you get a reading from spinning by hand but not when driving then its the fitting of the sensor/teeth inside the box that is the problem

If you get no reading from spinning by hand but you do when you drive its probably cos its not spinning fast enough (by hand) then its the Dials which are at fault or somewhere after the sensor.

If you get no reading either way then the sensor is dud, sorry for the essay hope you understand what i mean.

yeah i do i will track down a multi meter and see if that helps me find the fault

tbh first what i would do is try and find if there is a signal getitng to the dials, will try and find out what pin on the dials is the speedo.

So if the teeth in the box a screwed i am guessing i am screwed :/
and how would i find out if i signal is getting to the dials :/ everything elice works .. bar my temp sensor but the speedo is the most anoying thing lol

    Basically........... yes i am afraid,

well what you would do is take the dials out, unplug them and when i get Autodata up and running i will tell you which pins the Speedo is, then you can test the voltage, and if you get a reading then its the dials. that will then rule that out. tbh i wouldn't be surprised if its the Dials that have gone.

okay mate cheers for that i will try and have a look i did have a bref look today the wires are getting a current to them bar one on the back of the dials on the blue plug so i am a bit confused :/ ?? if that is the wire for the speedo how do i get a current to it to make the speedo work :/
