   What do they actually do? Does it increase performance or noise?

   No difference in noise.
   
   Should help engine breathe better... in theory.

   drill the airbox aswell and derestrict the box aswell, and a good cold air feed.

   i went for a K&N pannel filter with a good air feed, seemed to do the trick for my car ran great. didnt get any noise off it
   here is a pic if its any help
