clutch went....

not sure whats gone but it has always grinded when decelerating and suddenly as i came to a junction and pulled away it drove like i was wheel spinning, slow acceleration but foot down.
It just revved and that was all that happened so i assume that was the clutch slipping as the pedal was completely up.
It eventually engaged itself and i drove using the gears as normal up to 4th then stopped again at another set of lights, this time the clutch slipped from biting point and then when putting it into second didnt engage at all..
    Clutch bearing?
    Clutch plates?
What is it? can anyone diagnose?

My clutch went on my first VTR after driving about 300 odd miles back from cornwall, it went when I was a mile away from home.

overall, costed about £280. Garage had it for 2 days sad times. Reckon the clutch is going on my current VTR too....
