Is this setup ok?

    Hello!

First I want you to be not angry with me, because of my bad english....I'm from Austria! So, please excuse me if I write something wrong.

I've got a 106 Gti '99 and want to increase the performance of the engine:

    - enclosed induction (raceland)
    - newmans PH3 cams
    - manifold (don't know wich one to go for)
    - sporscat (200cells)
    - 63mm Group A exhaust-system
    - tune the original/stock throttle body (enlarge the bore/diameter)
    - update the ecu on the dyno and set the rev. limiter to 7500rpm

    And these are my questions:

    1) Wich manifold should i go for? Thougt about the ProTech (because of the large and long primaries) or does a Raceland the job as good as it? (for this setup)
    2) Are the Nemans PH3 fine to drive with the original pistons and conrods? Should i geht other valve-springs or are the original springs good engouh?
    3) Is the Group A-exhaust to large (bore/diameter) for this setup?
    4) Would this setup work fine up to 7500rpm? Don't want a setup wich kicks in to late and would give good gains up to 8k rpm. I want a setup wich givs good gains up to 7500. Because I don't want the engine to rev higer.
    5) Should i do something about/with the cylinder head?
    6) What do you say about this setup?

    And a last question:
Is there a better radiator avaliable for the 106 GTi (with A/C)??? I want to improve cooling.

And again.....SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH! Hope you can read it

Greetings from (the very hot) Austria,

    Richie

sounds like a decent set up. id put the largest green filter i could in the raceland as the red one is abit shit apparently. the manifold.. pro tec would be better but the raceland will offer similar results for alot less money. also the quality is said to be poorer on the raceland.. not well up on cams tbh so some1 else gonna have to answer that. cooling i think forge do one but i imagine its gonna b pricey. my mate got the fan casings that fit two fans in an left on standard and one he's rigged up to be on via switch in the car but at a lower speed so it keeps the engine that few degres cooler but dont hum along all day. hope this helps abit.

    1. Not heard of ProTech, might be exclusive to mainland Europe area but over here Piper [English brand] and Supersprint tend to be regarded as the best with Raceland a good alternative but built to a lower standard.
    2. PH3s are fine with standard setup. It is recommended to get new lifters when getting new cams.
    3. Not Sure
    4. PH3 powerband is between 3000-7000rpm so a limit of 7500 will be ok.
    5. Standard head will work fine.
    6. Setup is great but you will want more

So you would say the Raceland-manifold would be good enough for this setup?
Because the primaries look a bit short wich means less power in higher rpms????
    The protech has larger primaries!
Or are the short primaries ok up to 7500rpm?

What do you mean by primaries mate? The length of tube from the exhaust exit on the head to where they join?

i assume he means the innitial 4 pipes b4 they go to 2 then 1.. the only major diff is between a 4-2-1 and a 4-1
  7. #7
That is what I thought, the longer they are and/or a 4-2-1 will give you slightly better power at lower revs then shorter primaries and/or a 4-1 will give you slightly more power a very high revs.

This is only a very small difference in power though, a 4-1 would only ever be beneficial on a track where you will always be a high revs.

id go with the raceland personally. an extra 200 or quid for the others and i bet there only 0.5 bhp diff between them. an if you keep it clean.. (i use wd40 on my bike ones) every week it stops them goin horrible

I saw a thread on here a while back on a raceland cracking due to it being of a slightly thinner tubing material. I personally would get a Piper or Supersprint. They are both stainless so should both weather the same as each other.

do you have to do the oil filter conversion on the piper an supersprint?

Pro-tech are shit lee_vtr1 had one on his rallye the build quality was appauling tbh
raceland for the money is very good and a lot of people run them for that reason
you don't really need long primaries on a spec like that tbh
they help but tbh it's not worth the extra cash and you loose ground clearance as the manifold hangs lower

ph3s at 7500 on standard rods pistons is fine and common to do
standard springs work but after having one fail on my engine of similar spec personally I'd take the opportunity to upgrade

63mm may be a tad large tbh most aim about 50/55 ish on a spec like that
however 90% of those remove the cat whereas you want a sport cat so it may work well still

Thank you all for the informations! Really cool!

@AlexB: How much hp did you get with wich manifold? (raceland????)

What about other manifolds like this ones:

I was just searching for infos of the raceland.

Its very cheap but the opinions are different. Some say its perfekt and some say its rubbish.......don't know what to do....
