Interchangeable hubs Mk1 - Mk2?

Alright lads hope you can help me with this one,

Car failed MOT the other week on rear beam and o/s wishbone, i replaced the parts myself(thank funk for IM axles) and took the car for its retest, it failed as a hairline crack had appeared just next to where the pinch bolt is on the bottom of the suspension leg.

I bought a strut from a local pug/cit breakers and took it to have it fitted (would have done it myself but dont have an impact wrench and the driveshaft bolt wouldn't move for s$*t)

The mechanic rang me up and said that its the wrong hub, obviously must be from a MK1 VTR so has different driveshaft end fitment, I was wondering wether its possible to remove the hub from my old strut and put it onto the new one I bought from the scrappy, hence making it so my driveshaft would fit into the splines?

    Help would be appreciated!
    Thanks.
