map sensor?

   hey there this mite seem a bit dull, but ive dun a vts conversion and it starts n all.. but wen it idles it revs up and down about 800 rpm and will eventually stall, i have cleaned the icv, but ive been chap and had to use a spare map sensor off my 1.4 furio a 4 wire type onto the vts loom wich has 3 wires ive had it diagnosticed n it threw up map sensor fault but would tht really cause it not to run properly what does it even do ?? also does it affect the icv?

   yes it may cause it to run bad i forgot to plug mine back in after moveing my loom and it started run lumpy and cut out
