what all do i need? whats the best make to get? and what would this set me back inculding the remap?
also is there any other modifcations could i do other then camming that would see the same results?

best would be breathing mods first i.e decat 4 1 manifold decent panel filter then cam then remap

As above the usual breathing mods. A shorter ratio gearbox i.e GTi/VTS/S1 rallye will give quicker acceleration through the gears.

For cams the Newman PH2 are pretty good (same as the PH3 cams) but fits the blacktop engine. Ported and polished head would gain roughly the same amount of power as a cam but it is more expensive and if you go down this route get it done on a flow bench.

a port and polished head wouldnt see the same gains as a cam + reamp would it? would i be better buying a port and polished head then off citunning for £450

i'd say around 1k, depends on what cam you have, and were you get it fitted and remaped. also all the other little things you need like head gasket set, cambelt, oil etc etc.

would a port and polished head see a good gain with all the usual breathing mod's?

Its when you look at the money it costs to cam & head work a Vtr - a Vts transplant works out cheaper!
