Banging and rattling (not driveshafts) - trackday

  1. #1
So..I've recently noticed a loud banging noise coming from the front of the car when going slow, 0-40mph over bumps. Its definitely not the driveshafts as I don't get any clunks when cornering and I had this problem on my previous saxo. The car has had new ARB droplinks, track rod ends, ball joints, top mounts, top mount bearings within the last 1500 miles.

However the banging has seemed to have got worse after a trackday last Wednesday. I replaced the ball joints on the wishbones about 200 miles ago as they were pretty worn and I also bought some new pinch bolts for them off swampy. So surely that can't be the problem, I've checked top mount nuts, drop link nuts, track rod ends and they seem fine which leaves me to a loose damper perhaps? I replaced the dampers with Spax PSX around 1500 miles ago but did up the damper retaining nut very tight with stilsons (handle is over 40cm long so leverage isn't a problem). I made 100% certain there was no play in the damper so i'm unsure if its that. What can it be??

Also, I have an annoying rattle coming from the rear beam (i've had this for a while now). Over every little bump there is a really annoying rattle. There is no play in the beam as I refurbed it myself 8 months ago as I bought a re-furbed one which was total shite. I regularly check it for play and there is nothing at all there. Any ideas - I think it could be the white thing that clips onto the fuel tank (think its a fuel ball valve) as its not clipped on properly due to the clip breaking so its cable tied on.

Any got any ideas, I'm puzzled by the whole lot!

i might sound stupid, but are your wheel nuts tighten fully? if cross threaded or not put on right it makes a knocking noise which happened with me, it sounded just like a driveshaft knocking or ball joint, always try simple things first

Yeah, I have my wheels on/off all the time, the threads inside the hubs are perfect as I regularly put a tap through them to clean the thread. Wheel nuts are always tightened and checked with a torque wrench so its not that .

    Definitely a strange one though!

    Check your wheel bearings harv............

Not them either mate, no play in any of the 4 wheels at all as I had them changed recently (forgot to add them to the list). I'll check the wishbones again as some people have told me you should tighten the passenger footwell mount when the car is dropped back onto the floor again.
