Changing CAT Position?

  1. #1
Is this possible? I have the CAT in the manifold on my car. However I'd like to run a SPORT CAT system but it appears all the makers of these put the SPORT CAT in the centre pipe. Could I simply remove the CAT from the manifold on my car and fit one of these systems or is it not an option?

    Thanks for your help guys.

yes it is possible you just buy a decat manifold and fit a mk1 center section with the sports cat, but you can get sports cats in the manifolds your just looking in the wrong places lol

you can get sports cats that are manifold cats, i have seen them around, but they aint cheap

here you go they cost a bomb though, whats wrong with just going de-cat?

Basically dont want the hassle of changing everything around at mot time mate. So what your saying is if i wanted to do this id need to buy a new mani aswell? I'm after the saxsport system which has the SPORT CAT in the centre pipe.

well if your cat is in the manifold then just buy the de cat saxsport because you'll still have the cat in the manifold wont you

I know mate but i'm after a sport cat rather the standard one for the slight performance benefits

ok mate well youve got two options either buy the manifold which i posted the link to, which has a built in sports cat and then fit the saxport de-cat, or buy the sax sport with the sports cat in and fit a decat manifold which only cost about £150 or do it cheap and fit a standard mk1 vtr manifold

Cheers mate. Would the mk1 mani fit my car no problem then? And where could I pick a new one up or would i have to go 2 citroen?

the only problem you'll get is that your mk2 manifold has two lambda sensors in it the mk1's only have one sooooo you have to sleeve the second lambda sensor and poke it away some where safe

why cant it just be simple lol i might just stick with getting the decat version and keeping the manifold i already have

tbh id get a saxsport de-cat and a raceland manifold will mean you have no cat but it only takes me 10min to swap a manifold back over for the mot and considering you can get a raceland 4-2-1 for about £150 and the sports cat 4-2-1 manifold costs around £450 im happy enough spending a few minutes once a year to swap the manifolds around lol

Could do mate but i'm not very mechanically minded lol suppose i'd have to learn! Btw just had a quick look through your thread & thats a top car fella good work.

buy a decat manifold and then you can choose whether you run a standard cat/sports cat or a decat underneath the car. It is much easier to swap the centre section over than it is a whole exhaust manifold. Sports cats offer small gains for their cost imo.

That probably is the route I'm going to take, just got to decide on which manifold to go for now then!

the cheapest 4-2-1 is this raceland, but its made for a mk1 so the oil filter needs to be converted to a mk1 filter as the mk2 filter gets in the way but it costs about £30 for the parts from citroen

but you can buy the raceland 4-1 manifold which is made for the mk2 which bolts straight on and no messing around

on a standard car you wont notice the difference between a 4-2-1 and a 4-1 manifold
